Hi folks

Stumbled across an interesting set of vids on you tube called "Sunday Nightcap" Twastard Engineering" 119 vids which are extremely good, made by a chap called John, best ones I've seen very informative and I'm learning loads --thanksJohn--now we all have a list of projects to do and trouble is watching all this stuff just adds to the list so it keeps getting longer, does anyone else have this problem?

I pay for MEW by direct debit which as we all know can be altered to cover price changes etc, is it not possible to somehow register to receive these extra publications automatically and avoid disappointment, the producers of our magazine must have an idea of what is coming up in the forseable future and the price to cover the mag + one offs included in our Direct debit payments,

Thanks Nigel, I would be very interested. My shaper is made from a variety of unassociated parts from here and there, motor from a floor polisher giving 360rpm,the slides are from a very old lathe, the tool slide is the cross slide from an unknown lathe, the yoke is driven from a rejigged gearbox from a industrial dough making m/c,the chassis, ram and slides, scotch yoke auto feed made ffrom scratch, I like to make useful things from discarded pieces of other machines, the fun is fitting them together and also saves a lot of work, one of my other efforts was a dedicated tool grinder made from an ex forensic specimen slicing machine which does everything I need at a low cost, enjoy your trip abroad and I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks John, perhaps I'll try a good fitting pin first as it seems the easiest option, woulld be interesting to try your taper suggestion -maybe later

Hi Folks, I am attemting to build a home made shaper, got to stage of making the clapper box and need to make the taper pin or find someone who can supply me with a #8 taper pin 3:6" long and a reamer to suit, has anyone any suggestions please? Dimensions are similar to the atlas 7" shaper, or maybe there is a gash box lurking in a workshop somewhere that is unwanted and for which I would pay coin of the realm for

My girl is very understanding, she even let me strip and rebuild my Series 2a landrover engine in the living room, there were bits of landrover all over the dwelling, not a word of complaint, down side is I seem to be responsiible for the housework, seems fair don't it

Thread: Machine vice - Vertex/Arc Euro Trade/Gloster?
30/04/2015 17:12:00

I have a WM-14 and use a vertex 4" vice on it and have had no problems with size of vice, fair to say I removed the swivel base first and the odd time I have used base there has no problem either, I did buy a 6"rotary table which is sometimes awkward to mount and wish I had got a 4"

Thread: single phase motor-calculating rpm
05/04/2015 10:59:32

The nm converts to 3.9 odd ft lbs don't know if thats enough torque you would need but it pushes my hacksaw through a lump of 2" steel no problem

I use Parvalux 12 volt dc motor ,max amps 6,watts output 46,rpm 3000,rated continuous which has a gearbox fitted which gears it down to 50rpm,nm 5.35. This runs my home made machine hacksaw photos of which are in my photo album. It is compact with plenty of oomph, I don't know a great deal of elec theory but this works for me maybe it would work for you
