I am the same Martin, I used to love twin tubs, if it could be removed I'd have it, I have just had to clear an outside store and it seems I have stuff I didn't realise I had

Good advice Ian, I shall approach with caution, the shank end of my drills are flat and I understand that carbon steel had cone shaped ends, probably mistaken though, would probably only try on non ferrous

To Mick H, may be some confusion here-see my post about freeview box turning itself off, I think Nick's post may have been reply to me, I may be mistaken but his suggestion works for me,

Thread: Do you finish every project before moving on ...
08/01/2016 20:14:47

Currently I have Rob Roy build,a home made shaper, new graduated dials for horizontal mill, and just finished four 2 way toolposts for my lathe plus other assorted small jobs, an old instructor said never attempt anything unless in the mood for it so by having jobs various there is always one of them thats suits, and it always seems that doing one job its inevitable that something else has to be made to advance that job, deep joy

Thread: Time for a name change?

The first 15 months of my 5 year engineering apprenticeship in the early 60's was spent on bench work using the basic tools eg 2lb/half lb hammers, cold chisels various, files, rule/scriber,calipers etc, that was the way I learnt and when the electric went off or l was in the depths of the Malayan jungle or the middle of the Atlantic armed with these skills and a basic set of tools almost anything was possible. I am glad I experienced those days, personally I prefer the old school way of doing things but if I was a youngster nowadays I would probably be using these modern techniques, the world moves on but it is rewarding to do stuff by hand

Thread: Myford rear toolpost
13/12/2015 11:16:38

Well if what you are parting has a bore it leaves no pip, if it hasn't then just face it off,not ideal but if it works?

My home made rear toolpost has the slot to hold cutter at a slight downward angle so by moving tool back or forwards centre height can be slightly adjusted up or down

Thread: Tool holders for Warco WM 180 Lathe

I have a 4 way for my Corbett lathe and have just made four 2 way toolposts gives me 12 tools shimmed by a couple of feeler gauge sets all for under £20, just as quick to change as a QCTP and a dam site cheaper
