Hi Guys, I'm sure that I posted pictures of my fly cutter on here recently, but anyway... The cutter is a but of 1/4" square HSS. Its symmetrical so both ends are ground similarly. The shaft is 20 mm diameter and the body is a 20 mm thick stainless off cut from a 75 mm bar. It cuts just over 2.5" diameter.

Hi Lee, Guys, A 90 degree HSS or Carbide countersink will easily cut those "V" slots. The reason I said to take it easy with the cut, is that the shaft size on some of the counter sink bits may only be 1/4" diameter. As are some of mine. I have a nice six flute one that would do the job at full depth because it is on a 20 mm shank and is only 25 mm diameter. I've got that one in a plastic handle and use it for deburring holes.

That handle will make all the other Myford people green with envy. You will never get me to post a photo of the one I made. Oh go on ! It can't be that bad if you still have and use it. That wheel came from a scrap yard just for the price of taking a bolt out of the hub and I kept the belt. Handy keeping a mover in the boot.

Hi Guys, I made my lathe winding handle from a scrap plastic drum pulley from a old front loading washing machine. I made a revolving handle and screwed it into one of the spokes to make it easy to turn. The collet is similar to the one in the drawing above. There are other pictures in my album.

Hi Sam, When you mentioned how light the mast was, I thought that it was going to be thin, thinner than 4 mm anyway. I would try my first suggestion since you now have a threaded hole there.

Hello Mike, Guys, I treat laser cut edges the same, similar to machining cast iron, you have to get under the skin ! Once you do it tends to machine easily. I agree with John Haine, annealing them will work.

Hi Guys, Two things occur to me, assuming that you cannot get the plug to come out at all. You have already drilled and threaded an M12 hole and said that the tenon is out of place ! It would be entirely feasible to make a screwed in piece to replace the tenon completely and use a thin washer to allow for alignment. Or You could remove as much of the old plug as possible by filling in the threaded hole that you have made, then using a hole cutter remove the bulk of the plug which should allow the remains to be extracted. It may be wise to tightly wrap the carbon fibre tube with something so that it cannot expand or crack whilst prising out the, what now should be a fairly thin wall of material. A further thought is could the CF tube crack when putting in the new plug ? Just my 2p worth.

I'll first admit that the only internal thread I've cut was a 1" thread as practice following Toms Techniques Youtube vids when I started playing and using a hand ground cutter. A smaller internal hole with a tight tool and I think i'd cut it away from the chuck with inverted tool to make it easier to check clearances and place the tool before each run. pgk Won't that cut a left hand thread ? To cut a right hand thread the tool needs to be the right way up and the lathe spindle running in reverse with the feed away from the chuck. I have to cut a thread into a back plate for a new chuck.

Hi Guys, A really good site for drill sharpening information is "Gadget builder" https://www.gadgetbuilder.com/DrillSharp.html He has a number of things on there for sharpening drills from mini to maxi. I built his four facet drill sharpening tool. It is my standard goto drill sharpener. There is a picture of mine on that page.

Hi Lainchy, Guys, There are a multitude of reasons why a hole doesn't get drilled where you want and expect it to be. Drilling a small pilot hole isn't always the answer. For hole starting a good centre punch helps. The most common reason for holes drifting off, particularly deep ones, is as already been mentioned is rigidity. Not necessarily in the machine, but the drill. Applying too much pressure to make the drill cut will cause it to flex. Only a few thou, but enough to cause a hole that starts off perfectly to then end up some distance from the place you expected it to come out. Just another thing, drills whether cheap or dear are not always ground well. I've spent a lot of time learning how to grind drills properly, and built machines to do it. If you have a choice of drill, choose four facet ground ones. A bit more expensive but not a lot more.

Hi Guys, I notice that nobody has commented about my suggestion of using a 45 degree countersink. HSS or Carbide. Using one would mean that the work could be securely fastened down to the mill table without any messing about with the mill head and then having to tram it all up again.

That is after you have drilled all the rivets out !
