Thread: Bandsaw woes |

Thanks for the replies, yes both blades broke on the weld. But the original one had been in for months so probably not a bad batch. Had a quick shufty round the saw and nothing appears to be loose or different. Will have a good check of things once new blades arrive. |

I have an Axminster bandsaw, bought secondhand but not done a lot so not worn out. Im using blades M42 Bi metallic blades 10-14 vary pitch from Tuff Saws. Up to now its performed faultlessly, then yesterday the blade that was in suddenly jumped off the wheels while cutting some 16mm mild steel round. I put it back on and two cuts later it snapped. Its been in a while, so although it still looked in good nick, no teeth missing etc i thought fair enough, no drama, stick a new blade in. only had one more cut to make. Second cut today on some 40mm EN8 round and a quarter of the way through the new blade snapped. I only had a very light feed on (saw is hydraulic downfeed) was stood at the lathe and just heard the ping as it let go.....bugger! Just ordered 4 new blades, but at £17 a pop I'm reluctant to kill another new blade. Could it be the tension that is too high ? or something else......Thoughts on a postcard please.

Most industrial machines are 3 phase + Earth, some also have a neutral connection which is only required if something on the machine is 240 v. That item will use one of the three phases and neutral to give 240 v Hard to describe, so hope it makes sense. |

Buy cheap, buy twice. "Chinese made rotary table in runout shock horror" not exactly a surprising headline to be fair........

Not that much of a bargain, no gap bed, basic 4 way toolpost, no faceplate etc I wouldn't buy a Harrison M without hearing it run either, unless it was really cheap. Have come across a few M's that looked mint but sounded like a bag of spanners from the headstock. And always makes me laugh when they put 'Ex School' like it's the holy grail.....Paint might have fared well in the classroom environment , but students are not sympathetic to machinery. |
Thread: Plastic for gears |

Cheers Nick, I missed that post.....Delrin it is then

Would it be possible to use plastic for a lathe change gear, if so what is the best material to go for ? My old Harrison had a large fibre gear in the train, so I'm assuming there could be a suitable plastic type material that is machinable and readily available. |
Thread: Grinding wheel supplier recommendation |

Just refurbed an 8" Wolf bench grinder and need some wheels for it. Nothing fancy just for general purpose grinding, tickling up of twist drills and HSS tooling etc Anyone recommend a good online supplier ? |

Just thought I would share this. No connection other than being a very satisfied customer. They have now opened an online shop which should make ordering easier. |

I would consider bonding it on with sikaflex automotive windscreen adhesive. Key and degrease both surfaces and use the appropriate sikaflex primer. |

Hi, welcome to the forum Niall. Searching for 'Boxford Tailstock' on ebay brings up at least 3. No idea if any of them are suitable for your particular machine though. ? |

I carry a tub of wonder wipes in the van, but they come in different flavours, you want the ones with a rough texture. Get mine from the merchants but think Screwfix etc sell em. Brilliant for cleaning mucky daubs.

Thread: Hello from Malta |

Hi Chris, No help to you, but iv'e just sold a mill to a chap in Malta. I suppose the exchange rate will be favourable at the moment ? I had a few reservations at first, but in fairness it was one of the easiest transactions ever. Popped it on a pallet and he sorted the rest from his end. |

I worked at one place that used brand new Carver rack clamps as welding earth clamps. Shop sparks would grind a flat on them and drill a 1/2" hole to attach the cable. Edited By Alan Waddington 2 on 14/02/2017 20:15:23 |

I believe they also made Stationary engines from a different address in Liversedge. Not living a million miles from Liversedge and knowing that many old industrial buildings are still standing in Yorkshire I thought it might be interesting to see if the Atlas Works still existed. Got quite excited, when a Google Earth search for 'Atlas Works Liversedge' started to descend from on high. Sadly it revealed a housing estate

Thread: Looking for a 1/4" ratchet |
08/02/2017 22:47:03 |
I've got a couple of Teng ratchets like you are describing, but they come in small sets with a range of 1/4 bits £30 or so, well worth the money,, great quality, lifetime guarantee. They do a couple of variations, but the difference is the bits rather than the ratchets. One of my sets has sockets up to 13mm and a hex to square adapter to mount them to the ratchet.
