Thread: Scrap yards |
25/03/2018 21:24:18 |
I worked in a steel works 60s-70s and it had 3 scrapyard No 3 yard being by far the biggest and the one where all the 'car' scrap was tipped, in the early years I often had to go to No3 yard to repair the cable on the cranes magnet 15 min job then 30 mins poking through the scrap you could almost say you could find any part you wanted. One could find starter motors and dynamos by the dozen and you were allow to buy them at scrap price which I did I then refurbished then fitting new bearing, brushes and Bendix which I then sold on for a small profit never short of buyer's there were 2200 employees H |

Thread: Vertical Boiler Fittings |
13/03/2018 14:40:19 |
Gary As it been pointed out dependant on the size of the boiler you may not need 2 means of adding water and if you go the way Fizzy suggests why not still fit a bush then in the future you may want to fit a hand pump then the bush is there. It may be worth you checking out Keith Appleton's youtube channel he does quite a lot of work with boiler **link** H

Came across this youtube video around the 2 min mark you'll see the 'Roller' taking a measurement but as it's only a small bar being rolled he's smaller callipers
Posted by Harry Wilkes on 02/01/2018 11:12:17: Remind's me of when I worked in a steel works the 'Roller' the guy who measured the hot steel on the mill floor had the largest pair of outside calipers I have ever seen when closed from top to tips had to be 36" ! H

At heart I,m a Samsung fan but at the moment I,m using a iPhone 5, there are some good deals to be had at the monument on both the iPhone 4 &5 both quite 'pocket sized'. As to why i'm not using a Samsung it's simply that the one I had would not 'talk' to my car's hands free ! H |

Mike thanks for the info, Michael I am now thinking it may have been damaged in some way but I cannot see any 'war wounds' If I close the mic and zero the display it reads fine, I have other micrometres I can use if the battery fail's it's just so much easier H |

Simon I have managed to find some info on setting of the function but it needs mechanical adjustment the barrel is not zeroing H |
20/02/2018 17:54:32 |
Michael the barrel doesn't zero I seem to remember reading somewhere (maybe in a dream) that small adjustments could be carried out with 'C' spanner other adjustment could be made by taking the barrel off and slightly rotating it on the splines ! H |
