Some years back to aid cold starting quite a few cars had 6v coils with a resistor in series but when starting the engine for a few seconds the resistor was bye passed this proved very useful in the really cold winter's

Fellow club member made a 'blower' using one of those 12v fans that blow up camping beds etc, he had a chimney extension if I recall correctly around 18" long with a smaller piece of pipe mounted at 45 deg into which he pushed the 12v fan this arrangement worked OK on his 4" Garrett

Tesco do a useful feature that many others don't - a spending cap. So if you are on a monthly contract you can set say a £5 extra charges limit, and it won't let you go over that (you can disable it of course if e.g. in an emergency abroad). Good for peace of mind that you won't be hit by a huge unintended bill.

Clive I absolutely agree with you having worked for British Silverware and Anochrome it's my experience that chrome plating would have a base layer of both copper and nickel !!!

All way's a shame when someone dies, I worked in the metal finishing trade and had several large automatic zinc plating lines which I was responsible for. Every effort is made to avoid causing a spark but many a hydrogen 'bang' as led to brown trousers wink on one occasion I've seen plating barrels with a couple of their panels blown out !

Two loco clubs based in the 'West Mids' Kinver "link" and EWR (Kingsbury) "link" may be worth checking out their website or contacting the club secretaries . Another suggestion as your in B'Ham check the running dates for EWR and pop over ask the question !

I used one of these to save my back and a 6x5ft trailer to transport it around, I modified the tail gate on the trailer to unfold making a 2 piece ramp.
