Thread: what size rotary table?
03/11/2016 08:25:35

had couple of jobs where i needed rotary table that i have had to ask someone at club to do for me.

i don't have milling machine at min ( or workshop ) but do have 5.5" lathe chuck mounted to steel plate that easily fits on both my drill press and one at club.

planning on getting rt so i can do the bits myself and planning on good size milling machine when i get workshop sorted.

question is what size 4 or 6 inch?

plan is to use extra money at end month to get tooling ready for when i move.

Thread: halloween

must admit only had half dozen call all very pleasant and well mannered.

couple of teenage girls turned up after little ones had been and in costumes said trick or treat please and thank you after.

don't mind older kids if polite and at least made effort.

31/10/2016 16:47:23

thought trick or treat was for kids?

so far had 6 teenagers in normal clothes knock asking for sweets?

all at least 15 .

get mouth full of abuse when i said no.

Photos would be nice. I can relate to the no workshop situation at present, as I'm also thinking long term about projects and have been adding to my tool collection; some of them projects in themselves. I would suggest that a project is only worth doing if necessary, or it gives you enjoyment, this is a hobby after all.

smiley

posted i was putting up pic.

looking as learning project to learn milling etc

have bits from old lathe of unknown origin that were getting binned at club due to damage.

bed isn't damaged just rusty one of housings that hold spindle is broken off.

got few other bits like leadscrew and pair of flat belt pulley's with it.

also got mt1 tailstock for it.

thinking long term here as no workshop at min but plan is to machine of housings and make new ones and build from there.

worth doing?

any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Perhaps a DVD could be in a slightly different format say large multi-issue projects, the Stepperhead Lathe springs to mind on one dvd. Possibly 10 best QCTP to make or all of the one man and his lathe articles. A selection of bench tools or a collection of lathe projects. Electronics in the workshop or a gathering of all the CNC articles.

Might be more interesting/saleable than just a rehash of isuue 1 to 20; 21 to 30 etc. Of course it probably entails a good deal more work for someone! How many issues fit on one DVD?

John

i do like that idea easier to look for certain bits,

will tha qctp arc sell for the c6 lathe fit ok on myford super 7?

the club i belong to have only got 2 holders for their qctp and as i aren't using my c6 one as no workshop at min was going to take it over to use for some bits i have to make.

Thread: worth an hour of my time?
22/10/2016 20:00:56

rebuilt a few series in my time.

love them.

would love another s3 ambulance.

22/10/2016 18:37:46

6 of the chucks are 16mm capacity

22/10/2016 18:16:22

mate turned up today asking if the box he had ( contents in pic below) was worth an hr of my time checking over a s2 landy he was buying.

lot of chucks are on mt2 with mt3 sleeves fitted and some mt1-2 adaptors.

got all the chuck keys and it appears to only be surface rust.

so was it worth an hour looking rd one of my favourite vehicles?

hell yes
