It’s very worrying that increasingly parcels from Amazon are now being delivered by Hermes, my experiences of Hermes in my local area are not good with lost and misdelivered parcels, definitely proportionally more problems with Hermes than other carriers. Dave, take heart in the fact that Amazon won't put up with any buggering about. |

so if we get the guys name and bid his stuff up to silly money then cancel 24hrs before or win and collect ? You could, but you would be an irresponsible trader and, hopefully, dealt with as such. I find ebay a valuable resource - been in it from the start with 1500+ transactions. Altering algorithms etc. has so far only resulted in making it more difficult for genuine traders whilst trying to prevent others from being stupid. |

I did not start this thread to put anyone off ebay. It is a fantastic resource if used sensibly. I've bought and sold literally thousands of times with only minor issues. I've also bought or sold perhaps 20 items in the £1k - £2k range unseen with no real problem. (Sellers being a little economical with the descriptions of condition is as bad as it gets).I was a police officer most of my working life. Like most police officers I can be overly suspisious and cynical and I don't believe in coincidence!A new seller selling a high value item is not in itself a reason not to buy but with all the other contra indicators; recent feedback for low value items, short duration auctions with the item in a remote location (How many people reading could get to Dunoon to view within the time constraints of a 24 hour auction?) BACS as payment, refusal to accept paypal and the biggest one, plagerised description and photos.Ask the seller an awkward question or for a photo of an obscure part, something he won't be able to get from the net, say, the underside of the tail stock. A genuine seller won't mind. I've run down the garden to my workshop in the middle of the night with a camera and tape measure in order to answer questions before now.All that being said, I've had some real bargains from new sellers, just be carefull, go with your head not your heart. If it lookslike a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. Well said Gaviar - totally agree. |

Dunoon - a good choice for him - I think you have to take a ferry from Greenock to get there. Unlikely anyone will come and view - unless in the mood for an adventure. |

I'm local to MK Metals & been there a couple of times, as above it's absolute chaos, not sure how they keep going? I don't use them now. Tony I think it is like many an on-line business - boasts it sells everything in the world, and a big disappointment if you go there. It was a very small portakabin used as an office with broken down buildings. We went hunting for the metal I wanted amongst this, one building having doves in the roof with the consequence of shite on the metal below. That said, I did get what I wanted and I think the on-line trade worked OK. |
Thread: Agressive Geese on a right of way |

There is a current requirement for all poutlry to be kept indoors (another bird flu round) so at the mo' if they;re out you could dob the owner in but that will hardly be a way of making friends with country folk. I;m not sure about geese but duck used to /may still have the right of way on roads and that may/may not apply here. Geese are an excellent early warning system link Or just say 'boo' to them. Why be intimidated - they're only birdies? If they were ostrich capable of gutting you it'd be different... Back when i was working we had George the swan in a few times - It was understandable when he flew into some ovehead wires and broke a leg (I pinned). But when he flew into a London Bus! Let's face it they're big and red. That time he broke a wing for more fun repair work. pgk Mmm!! Swans are relatively harmless - normal beaks. Geese have beaks with a serrated edge and can give nasty bites. Take a stick with you? Look very good on the table though. Edited By Anthony Kendall on 15/12/2020 22:28:48 |

I presume it is the "and" that troubles the pedant in you most Michael rather than it being OK for a bit of spindle or bowl turning. .P.S. __ You may think it pedantry, but I spent a good part of my working life drafting and negotiating documents where words like ‘and’ were legally significant. Aren't you making a mistake in trying to impress engineers by demonstrating you are just an admin person? |

Thread: How are your clubs responding to Coronavirus |
26/11/2020 08:48:33 |
I think, in general and the vulnerable apart, those who want to do things are finding ways to do them. Those who can't be bothered are sitting with their thumbs up their bum making excuses and waiting for the government to tell them what to do. There's not much leeway in level 3 but the current lockdown and proposed levels 1 and 2 allow for meetings outside. Enterprising ME clubs are using this and organising themselves within the rules to maintain their assets. |

Thread: Lidl Portable Bandsaw |
09/11/2020 10:25:43 |
Posted by David Hill 5 on 05/11/2020 17:41:16:
I have considered buying the Lidl bandsaw on Monday (when we are released from our lockdown here in Wales) but now I am not so keen. I would rather spend a few, well quite a lot more bucks, and get a tool that I am very happy with rather that have the hassle of taking back the Lidl one. Was considering the Femi 782XL. Are people who have one very please with their decision? Yes, I am David. I have a single speed 782 with vertical table. I use it more than 75% in the vertical position so Aldi does not really meet my needs. Changing modes is quick and easy. You can buy four Aldis for the same price though. |

Thread: DHL Rip Off |
13/10/2020 09:35:46 |
I use this method of producing circuit boards regularly, and use both DHL and China post. If I use DHL I can get a PCB in my hands 6 days after I send the Gerber files to China. China post varies, but 26days is typical. This thread seems to be diverting into importing goods legislation. My interpretation of Duncan's post was that he too finds this service good and had no problem with paying his dues. I thought the real question was about whether DHL should impose an originally un-declared admin charge. I think the answer is no - but I expect it is buried in the Ts&Cs!
