Don't forget folks, you are supplying information into a system and if it does not fit the algorithm it will simply be rejected. Nobody is qualified, able or allowed to apply common sense to your application.

Everything normal and it flies through.

Anything even slightly different diverts into a sideroad where it is handled by people not understanding medical issues, refer it to others outside DVLA who do (maybe) and they both blame each other for non-response and don't care.

I would think long and hard before submitting anything out of the ordinary that is minor or marginal. Not suggesting you should be dishonest of course.

Was in my doctors today for an injection so I had had chat with the Practise Manager she blamed the pharmacy for the problem which is always the case and i will not bore you with the details but suggested in use Patientaccess which I told her I did but stiil had problems she suggested I give it another go to which I replied the were two items which couldn't be ordered through Patientaccess yes she said you need to phone your pharmacy for those well if I need to phone the pharmacy for two items I may as well order the lot ! At this point I decided banging my head against the wall would be more productive. H

Yes Harry, give up. I have similar problems, always the doctors, not the pharmacy.
When it goes wrong, I ask why, then, is anyone fixing it for next time else it will keep happening - greeted with strange looks and no desire to sort it. A simple admin process - such a shame admin people have no skills in one particular area - admin.!

If I send a request for a repeat prescription and it takes 5 working days exluding weekends, to get to the surgery, we don't have the pleasure of it being posted directly to us.

So I put in a request for medication first thing in the morning, write at the bottom " paper prescription please" pick it up in the afternoon, jump on a bus to town, Lloyds takes less than 10 minutes to process, walk off down the high street to my favourite cafe' and have a decafe coffee and a giant slice of chocolate cake, yummy, time taken 2.5 hours, free bus pass only costs are a fiver for cake and coffee, What a wonderful world we live in.

Good for you mate. Like it!

Sort of a little bit to the side but I find the practice of using contributions from people with their computers has understandably increased recently.

This is allright for me if the sound is decent - it is so easy to improve it with a proper microphone and just a little accoustic deadening.

Unfortunately we are often presented with someone sounding like they are in a jam jar at the bottom of the sea with significant break-up. Very few people, and no politicians, are worth listening to with this quality.
Unfortunately, the audience is beginning to accept it as inevitable and there will be more of it on the better-crap-than-nothing principle.
It must be really difficult for people with hearing difficulties with the screeching going on.

Thread: Transporting 5 inch live steam loco

The way I do it - it works for me.
Machine Mart, extended with plywood gives more area for working and easier access to car. Removable end-stop to prevent rolling off.

Use over-run rails to get up and under for quick jobs.

What would I do differently - buy a truck which went lower - going low is at least as important as going high!

Get on better without rails - easier to move loco around on the top.

Like I say, how I do it - not saying anyone else should - you get the drift. Pictures may work - if not, you'll have to imagine it!

No good!

If a bolt has thread all the way to the head and is longer than about 1" or 25mm then it is NOT a bolt - it's a set screw ! If there is plain rod between the head and the thread it's a bolt. This simple point may save some one trouble when ordering set screws or bolts. Good luck, Noel.

IF the pimply faced youth in the stores who can just about speak English is applying the same rules - and that's a big IFwink

Yet another waste of a thread. Snip

Presume you are having a bad day, or it's early.

Not a waste for me - I saw an option I had not thought of. Therefore valuable.

It's what forums are all about.

Never mind cities, I live in a largeish town, if I get back to the main railway station after 8:30pm I would have to walk home. OK it's only about 3 miles, but I won't be able to do that for many more years. People who live in metropolises, shouldn't make pronouncements when they know nothing about how the rest of us live.

Well said Duncan. I would take it one stage further and keep naive townies from influencing what happens in the countryside.

The alternative may be a trip back to a rural 1960 when you could pump your water out of the well by hand. Lights were paraffin and you walked to the end of the lane and paid to get your glass lead acid batteries charged by someone who had power. The Elsan got emptied into the midden. Personally I would rather not.

Like you Dave, having experienced it all - including a mile walk to a telephone, I'd rather not either.

The collective response from the forum then is to give up on emerging technologies.

How large will this be? Worth a 3 hour drive and/or a hotel stay? I'm rather itching to get back to exhibitions (really enjoyed Bristol).

Wouldn't be worth that for me - but it is usually a good exhibition. Maybe if you work it in with something else?

Yes, why not turn what is good news for some into something totally negative?

I have found a trigger lock is useful in this situation.chopsaw.jpg

I do use this situation - but I route the supply through a foot-switch, so I need a latching switch for this, but not at other times.
Does nobody make one with a switch with optional latching/non-latching like electric drills used to?

Yes, a really good quality and reliable supplier.

I was not his biggest customer, but regular.

It's getting more difficult to buy from someone who can answer a question - Chronos for example just sell stuff.

The government should take back the whole industry. At least we would all be ripped off equally. The existing profits would surely make it a cost effective exercise.

Mmm! I've got a feeling we've been there with British Road Services, British Railways and the Coal Board to name but three.
There's only one flaw in the argument - there aint no profits when you get there.

Any government has to implement anything via civil service - a bunch of book-passing desk jockeys. No hope there methinks. The less the government is involved in anything, the better off we will be.

01/04/2021 09:58:40

I do not have a smartmeter - I think I change suppliers too often to get one. I have always said yes when asked - thought it would save a pimply-faced youth from reading my meter. I do have night tariff which is switched by the Droitwich LF transmitter and works.
The facts suggested here seem to be....

Smartmeters are unique to each supplier
Currently, their only function is to give continuous usage data
People are worried they might be used for something sinister like switching their supply off
Mostly they do not work
They use the mobile phone network to transfer data

Mmm! Seems a bit of a mess?

Tongue in cheek comment - since I do not have one through no fault of my own and we are all paying, can I claim compensation? At the very least you folks should be grateful for my gift to you. winklaugh
