Thread: Dormer drill bits |

I've bought some off of eBay in the past, but NEVER EVER AGAIN! Edit/ Not Dormer I should add /Edit I went through packs of 4mm when I did the shelves between the BH600G stand towers. They just snapped at the least provocation. You only get bit once. Geoff - Back from hospital, X-Ray and Cystoscopy Edited By OuBallie on 02/10/2013 14:25:23 |

Stansted and back yesterday collecting other half's sisters and niece, from across the Channel, who are staying for the weekend. 'Plane an hour late due to someone being deported! Waiting for the inevitable comment BH £10 parking charge! Arrived at 1130h left just after 1300h. Talk about money for old rope!. Bl**y ripp-off springs to mind due to being a captive audience. Well, after 30 odd years discussing the Elvedon 'problem' on the A11, an actual decision has been made! Miles of roadworks either end of that bottleneck with an eventual western bypass. Sightseeing to Norwich today. Geoff - SHMBO goes to Stansted and back by coach! |

Andy, Didn't think of that solution - DUH! I was, however, shouting at him to put either a short thread or jacking screw in the centre hole of that disk, to be able to free it. As soon as he resorted to using a hammer to get it to seat, I saw problems, but he did eventually solve it. Wood for trees scenario. Is that his private workshop, or very understanding employers/friends? Geoff - A day to chill out. |

On a slightly different tack, but still about sealing cylinders: Wasn't there an article in ME moons ago about using PTFE rings to virtually eliminate friction, but backed by 'O' rings to provide the needed pressure against the cylinder walls? Didn't René Etter of RSME, experiment with PTFE and found that it creeped if not suitably contained. If memory serves, he did overcome the tendency of that material to creep by containing it, only allowing a small amount to 'show', but I cannot remember if he was using it for rings or 'D' valves. Geoff - Bad day today so no workshop. |
Thread: Tool Height |
17/09/2013 11:46:41 |
David, Had a good laugh re your hacksaw teeth doing the rounds What on earth made them do that? A Quick Change (QC) Toolpost if you can either afford or make one, will solve the never ending problem of packing. JS has drawings for a DIY set that's been made by many, and you can be sure his designs work. Until you use one, you don't know what you are missing Could never go back willingly to a 'normal' toolpost again. When I made the necessary bits to fit the QC to my BH600G, I had to fiddle/search for packing to use with the supplied 4-way Toolpost. All I can say is - "heaven using a QC" Geoff - Enough posts for today Edited By OuBallie on 17/09/2013 11:50:38 |

Thanks Eric, Nice solution and worthy of consideration. The top of my gearbox is cast as part of the unit, with holes to drip oil where needed. Watching those gears doing their business would be like the very first washing machine the family bought that had a viewing window in the door. Dad spent the whole cycle sat on a chair watchingnit, mesmerized I find myself doing so if it's operating whilst I'm having a meal or snack in the kitchen. I will be doing a separate thread and Photo Album for the modifications I do on my BH600G. Geoff - Need to tidy the HobbyRoom |

Thor, Good info on the first two links - thanks. Terry, My TS is in vertical mode right now, so will take photos as soon as I convert it to horizontal again. It doesn't take very long though. Prepared biltong two hours ago, been marinating for two hours sprinkled with spice, and now ready to go into the dryer. Installed additional supports in the HobbyRoom bookshelves to prevent them collapsing - paper is sodding heavy! All the shelves had sagged, the worst by about 1/2" between supports I HAD installed at ri,eof comstruction. OK chipboard is not the best, but the wood is resting on shelf brackets every 16", those that clip into slotted uprights screwed into the wall. Supports consist of 10mm Allthread rod, fed through holes drilled in the shelves where the brackets end, with nuts and washers supporting the weight. I just forgot that chipboard sags something horrid when loaded. Done for today. Geoff - Slight chest infection so on antibiotics |

Terry, You don't say what you have, so here is a list of what IS needed to operate in horizontal mode; 1) The 2.1/4" round bar that extends through the main column forward, supporting 3), 2) The horizontal arbor that fits into the main spindle and which is a precise fit in the, 3) Arbor support bracket that hangs off of the end of 1) 4) A selection of arbor spacers, to position the cutter/s over the table. Hope this helps, but if you need photos, let me know and I will put some up in an Album. Geoff - Coffee nearly finished |

Peter, iPad 3 using Terra browser to browse this and other similar sites. I have the same problem occasionally and all I do is power down then back up again and problem solved. Do also check that you have enough free storage, as recently, I was inadvertently trying to run 12 apps in the background with only 1GB free. Deleted a load of audiobooks I'd listened to and freed up 8GB. Don't also forget, that site designers/owners are adding more and more cr*p to bling their pages for no other reason than the now all too prevalent 'Me too, me too' mentality. Geoff - Need to make more biltong then SHMBO's afternoon out, with me in tow. |

Finished the Anthony Mount mods to the BH600G Cross-slide at flippin last, photos to be uploaded. OH CHUFF!, What a beaut you have there. I can just imagine not only the cost, but the finish on that beast. Make us drool please with specs. Geoff - Apron oiling tomorrow. |

Neil, Your comments remind of the member of a club who did just that. Every room, except one bedroom, had its fair share of machines installed. One room had a commercial riveter in it, which tended to upset the neighbours when used at night! Geoff - Two bedrooms converted into HobbyRoom & Office |

Using the BH600G with the VFD has been a revelation for me. All I do now is twiddle the motor speed knob and select depth of cut to suit rate of traverse. It was very hit and miss on my V10P, having all too often to resort to manual traverse to get a decent finish. Even now though, when required, I will wind the saddle backwards manually, either without moving the toolbit or just a division or two inwards on the handwheel, to get a virtual ground finish. Something I learned when using the Emco. There was an article in one of the magazines about making a special tool to achieve a good finish. Geoff - No workshop today, just not up to it. Bummer or what! |
