It's now been fitted to the Marlow milling machine, and is a joy to use, as is the 'Clutch' I fitted to the BH600G. I have added another Album, showing how the various parts work together. If anyone is thinking of making one - DON'T! Think that is, just do it! You won't regret it. Geoff - Done for the day. |

Welcome Stephen. To add photos to a post you first need to make your Album to contain said photos and then as many folders as you wish. Go to the top horizontal green bar and you will see a button labelled 'Album', click on it and just follow instructions. To add photos to a post, click the camera icon along the top of the text window and it goes automatically to your Album, choose the folder that contains the photo and a list appears, no details of said photo are shown, so you need to select each in turn so it's shown in the rh panel, then click the 'OK' button once the one you want appears and the photo miraculously appears where you placed the curser in the text entry window. Geoff - Hope that doesn't make confusing sense |

Paul, An auto-eject drawbar is easy to make as I found. Have a look at the last photo I posted in my thread Marlow A3 Milling Machine. It shows the one I've just finished. I will be adding another photo of it installed. Geoff - Found more tools I forgot I had when searching the Shed yesterday. Edited By OuBallie on 16/12/2014 09:41:41 |

Yesterday evening just before going on her nursing shift, other half asked where her glasses where. I looked at her and then pointedly at the top of her head where they sat, and where she has put them not a minute earlier. I try my best not to laugh, but sometimes just cannot stop myself, to which in response I get 'that look' Why can't we do that look I wonder? MartinP, ROFL Have you lived that episode down yet? Dave, Why the difference in recognising spiders and snakes? Perception of danger or the way they move? Must admit I have no problem spotting the rodents in the garden, but none for years now. That snake must have something to do with that, and to thank. The poison I put down in the shed has only now been touched, so snakey no doubt hibernating. Thor, Damn I forgot about that other one Geoff - Well I am recuperating from the drawbar saga V8Eng, The bellows are from ArcEuro. I spent hours searching for something and other than drilling, tapping, slotting and adding a bracket it's a straight fit and easy to lift out. Protects the Leadscrew to boot. George, I did try that way, but I was either too greedy with the cut or that DIY rotary table is not up to it, so gave up. Drawbar: I have just finished it and the photo shows all the completed parts, plus at bottom left, my first attempt at the MT tool extensions that have now been added to the scrap bin. In my post when I said I had sorted the height of those extensions to allow the use of one drawbar, I spoke far far too soon, with fate giving me a real kick in the posterior. I could not have made a bigger codswallop even if I tried, and then spent days trying to figure out where I went wrong, but eventually giving up in utter disgust with myself. That was on Friday 28th November! I know I know, slow coach. Then on the Saturday I thought (bad move) that I had sussed it out using Touchdraw on the iPad, but no, so retired to recuperate and give the old grey matter time to come to its senses. Tuesday 2nd of this month brain at last started to operate, and I came up with the perfect solution of determining what length to make those MT tool extensions so that they all reached the same height inside the spindle, when screwed onto each tool. The method I used can be seen on two of the MT tools in the photo. Who can see how/what I did? Will explain later of course if needed. The handle was finished off using a combination of Excel filing machine, hand file then small grind stone in the battery drill. The Auto-eject collar is attached to the drawbar, with the spindle cap, that the collar pushes against, and handle below. All the 3MT tooling is shown at top, each fitted with its specific extension that allows for a single common drawbar to be used. It took a little trial & error to get it to eject the 3MT tool, but does so now with about a 1/10th turn of the bar. All I can say is that the time and angst this has caused me has proved well worth the effort, and I can recommend the system without reservation. Now need to do one for the Tom Senior horizontal arbor. Geoff - It feels good when something comes to a satisfactory conclusion |

Spot the suds bottle. Couldnt resist another thread after my episode of a few weeks ago. Album 'Hiding in Plain Sight' created for others to add to. I'd been using the spray bottle containing suds whilst either turning or parting off, finished and went to drill something and needed the suds. Could I 'find' that container, could I heck, even searching everywhere. When I did see it where I had just used it, I couldn't be bothered to have words with myself, so just shook my head in dismay and disbelieve. Clive, Sacrilege putting a chicken/fowl/turkey carcass in the Tweeny. Ours end up in the back garden, and the birds make quick work of picking it absolutely clean. Leftovers disappear in short time, especially in winter with the Seagulls on food pathe Gulls on patrol. Throw some food out and they swoop down to gobble it up as soon as you are out of sight. Cannot remember the last time I put food scraps in the bin. Geoff - Blackbirds and Starlings always ready and waiting. |

If I was doing that job I would use a round nose (ball) cutter in the mill Edited By Bob Brown 1 on 13/12/2014 14:21:53 "Damn and blast" as my old man was fond of saying when something obvious was pointed out. I have one of those, as well as the Excel filing machine that has been giving me verbals for not remembering what it's used for. May have already made too much of a whatsits so far, but will see tomorrow. Geoff - |

Need help from the Collective please. Last stage to finish the Auto-eject drawbar, made from the Hemingway kit. I need to machine the half round 1/2" notches in/around the periphery of the handle. Any ideas please. This set-up for marking them out is just a little light weight for either a slot drill or milling cutter: This on the Boxford 6" just produces such monumental chatter, it feels as if the shaper will shake itself to pieces: Have used the 3mm cutter to remove material first: Geoff - Actually getting things done |

Martin, My first lathe was an Embo V10P, a bit bigger than the Myford, but as good a quality, and I was happy except for the single phase motor and geared head that made me wince when switching on and off. My present lathe is a 2nd hand Warco BH600G, bought in 2008, huge in comparison to the two mentioned, but just as accurate! It won't win any Catwalk competition BUT it does exactly what I want it to do, at the accuracy I need. Having fitted a Newton-Tesla VFD, QC tool holder and the 'clutch', it is an absolute pleasure to use. I would not hesitate in recommending a Warco (the usual), and if new you have a 'Fit for Purpose' guarantee. Plus they all come with VFD as standard now, and that's something I would not now be without, as it transformed my lathe. Geoff - Thank you SwiftKey for bringing sanity back when typing |

Chris, Oops, forgot to mention that it is a free App. Just install and follow instructions on adding a new keyboard. Only installed it yesterday so still getting used to it, as with any new App. Geoff - Part of Carport roof blown off yesterday |

Got everything set up on the Marlow to mill the 12x half round 1/2" grooves in the drawbar handle and wondered why the slot drill was winding itself out of the holder. It's the first time using the mill - motor rotation wrong. Swop two wires tomorrow. Geoff - SwiftKey keyboard has fixed the iPad curser problem! |

Norman - Not for you, the usual happened Edit: This is directed at you Michael Boot Camp to the rescue, and it's free, allowing dual boot when needed, but you do need to keep MS afloat though. I have Windows installed on the MacPro thinking I would use it, what with all the Windows software I have, but haven't booted into that OS for over a year now. When I did, however, I made sure I either updated straight away, or switched the router off for the duration. I'm happy with Snow Leopard. JS, Agree with your comments re business use. Microsoft has that field well and truly sewn up, (by the short & curlys some say), so you really have no choice. CAD/CAM as well. OS X does of course have files and folders, but not so with the 'i' products. Occasionally when using my iPad/phone I dind I need that feature, so switch to using the MacBook, and for real power, as in video editing, the MacPro. Apple lost the plot when they fired Jobs, and then went into a downwards spiral, with Gates rescuing them with a $50m bail-out when he helped his old pal Jobs save the company, after Jobs took control again. Amazing how companies can have their collective head so far up their whatit they cannot see daylight Cut oil channels in the TS bearing, but now need to hone it out a bit more. Did other things as well. Geoff - Someone please tell me things take longer to do when retired or when age creeps up. |

NJH, Stick with it, and you will soon be asking why you didn't switch earlier, as I did. My first Apple device I bought was an iPod, soon after coming out of hospital in 2007, and the 'halo' effect took over. After virtually nothing but grief using Windows since DOS 5/Windows 1, I bit the bullet in 2008 and bought a white MacBook and very soon after a MacPro. Never looked back once since, with only a couple of re-boots needed for software upgrades and/or security patches, unlike the Windows nightmare. Yes Windows machines are cheaper, BUT all the software that comes with the Apple products 'Just work' and if their cost is added to Windows computers, they are not so much more expensive. I'm no Apple fanboy, just someone who appreciates things that are made properly and work the way they should, as with machine tools. Geoff - Just need to grind oil channels in the TS bearing for it to be done. |

Apologies for ongoing issues with the website, the IT team are working on it.
Neil Neil, iPad 3 running iOS 8.1.1 (A certain Mr. Jobs would have had heads on a plate by now, what with the release of 8) It has been getting worse for me ever since your post, with me now twiddling my thumbs watching the download progress bar What with that bleep bleep curser behaviour, it's becoming a little trying to say the least. Not blaming you, but you are the Front Man are you not, having put your head above the parapet Geoff - Waiting for Management to wake up after night shift, to see what's in store for rest of the day. |
