isn't fibre the future, even if they improve the fibre itself, surely it's better to upgrade now........

I live in the sticks and there are those with a "dongle" cos the phone system is crxp.......

there is fibre cable 3/4 klm away but as the mayor or the community has to pay to get connected, it aint gonna happen fast....

esp as the moron mayor is 82 and he don't use the net......

just go for the best u can afford.......

we pay £50 for satelite broadband not quite unlimited but better than anyting else.

we pay €30 odd euro's per month for the cxrappiest phone service and there has never been a mobile signal at my house in 15-16 years....if it had we wouldn't need a land line....

leaving soon for sunnier clime's and they have fibre all over the island........

which if ur interested,the phone charge is around €35 per month for 2 sim cards for Iphone 7's (free local mob phones and unlimited texts), a land line....all local calls and a few dedicated international calls, all the Greek TV channels plus Animal planet, Discovery and National Geographic....

a def upgrade for us at 1/2 the money......

or u can find that springloaded idler pulley's eith a V or flat belt from a mower repairer's...

they are used all over the place on ride-on's.....

please do not leave chargers pluged in even if switched off......

no switches on French sockets tho.......do have a couple of UK sockets with a phone charger built in...

nothing is charged over night in my house even the electric bike....

and certainly the dishwasher n washing machines is never used overnight.....

we have lost phones and chargers to lightning.....very bad storm last night ..Charente Maritime.....

as for chargers, will only buy from the Apple store......

anyfurther phone conversations u must record, easy on an iphone etc...

then I’d call him up and make sure he,s aware that u are unhappy and a letter (recorded delivery )is on it,s way asking for a complete refund or what ever u want....

failure to reach a satisfactory agreement after 2week will leave u no option to go to small claims court...

it,s very cheap...£50 I think ....

then do what ever is nec....if they find him at fault he will just have to cough up ur money and court expenses...

i believe but not sure, if they find in ur favour the money will be owed to the court.....

even if u get judgement it,s not an automatic certainty that ur'll get ur money, u may have to take it even further...

Hopper's right......I write the numbers down with indelable felt tip h/marker pen in the cover........

if ur old belt is intact u can measure the outside distance BUT be accurate.......

a lot of belt companies now only quote the inside measurement....they do have a table to compare......

I order loads'a belt's this way.....belts over here ( Frogland) reg cost 10 times the price compared with the UK.....

so for the money I order the next belt either side......BUT I do repair a lot of machinery / tractors etc and they get used up quite quickly.......

for example wanted a 4.5m belt for my ride on mower.....quoted price + Vat here was not less than €160...

UK cost for exactly the same belt (Optie belt, German I think) was £6,80 + Vat....bought 2 and the postage was less than a tenner.....nuff said........

I dont need the dog danglee's just something reasonably simple to learn n use...but FREE...

I'll pay where needed but this I guess will be the last use of such a program there's more important stuff to do in the shed.....

I'm pretty sure my S7 has the same cabinet....

they guy it came from was a machine salesman and collected machines everywhere....

managed to salvage some nice stuff from his estate....

the paint match between the lathe and the stand is quite different but certainly the lathe is as new....

I'd like to add that there are properties in Grand Caneria that also store rain water below houses collected from the roof....in the mountains it is ducted by open troughs to houses / farms for use and storage....

and soon to be a an ex Pat living in Crete, their water is snow melt, gathered and treated for consumption ...

Last year they collected best bottled water in Europe cert....

and the last time I checked, untreated water for farms and Agri was 20cents per cub/m...also available for garden use.....

and this place is a mainly desert....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to live near Hyde, gtr Manchester and journey around Derbyshire.....there were loads of smallish reservoirs ...many were sold of as building plots......

where did the money go I wonder,

the main problems with utility companies is the scabs in suits that run it "for our benefit" NOT....

sounds normal....they are not quality items.....

even my Japanese made Hitachi drill spark a little when viewed thru the cooling slots....and is a tad noisy on shut down.....remember there's a lot of weight to slow down quickly....personally I prefer drill to slow down and stop the old way, in it's own time....I find the weight of the bigger voltage machines quite wearing after a days use....torque reaction...

the clunk is all the gears and other rotating bits n bobs coming to a halt....cheaper equipment means lower tolerances i.e. bigger gaps....

providing it's not noisy when working I'd not bother to much BUT u could take it back to where u bought it from and compare with another machine of the same type...

I bought a couple of cheap and nasties from lidil to get me outta a hole when on a job....

surprisingly they worked and lasted well...but with similar prob u describe.....

with this kinda gear u really get what ya pay for.....buy cheap buy twice I'm afraid.....

in Sept I will be living on a very hot dry island in the eastern Med.....

perfect for solar panels, all rocky and nothing but spikey weeds growing but very little in the way of commercial solar panel systems tho...shame.....

as for an electric car or pick-up, it's be entirely suitable BUT the stupid initial cost of such a vehicle rules it out....

even if the electric was free.....

we need the next jump in technology right now.....prob find that Shell, BP and others have snuffled it all out of existence .....damm shame....

a friend drove his new Tesla from just south of Paris to just north of Bordeaux and had to stop 3 times to get the charge to make the trip.....3/4 hr per charge...not the right vehicle for the job me thinks.....

when u think of the overpriced e/vehicles forget them for the moment....

oh, do u own the batteries or are they leased....cos after say 5 years they will be junk...cost of replacement....??

then they'll want an extortion amount to dispose them

my take on it is, just dump the whole vehicle in the ocean and use it as an anchor.....

Paul, I have the mk2....I'm lucky enough to have full 3phase at home, I found the original switch gear a pain (mine was in-line with the chuck in the bottom left cabinet...(all original)....

also I might say bxxxxy dangerous....u loose sight of the chuck when bending down.....

The on/off switch is now housed on a bracket mounted on the top cover. U can now turn the machine OFF safely even if a bomb goes off....the original contactor burnt out and I thought it was a good idea to change everything....

Incidentally I still use the original suds pump switch mounted on the old switch cover....don't use it an awful lot anyway......most tools are carbide tipped.....

Mine never had a clutch but a chuck brake instead, (it was either or not both when ordering a new lathe I'm told)

I, got the simple but brilliant idea for the clutch from ''silly old duffer',(on this forum), he's made the conversion as well .....

• I will happily forward photos should u wish and am sure Mr S.O.Duffer will do the same...
• Found the clutch so handy when stop start function is needed....measuring...

I was lucky enough to buy an unused, as brand new Myford VMF...made in Taiwan, 3phase....still covered in wax....

it was from a machine salesman’s private stash...he died and I was first offered all his equip....inc a Super7 in the same condition....no tooling for either....

the mill is a treat to use, will modify mine with a col raising ring....

i also have a sweet Bridgeport J head.....the tooling is the same....

real diff is nothing but the size....

go buy ur new toy, u won't be disappointed..

DMB what is the drill aid please........

gotta to be better to use em as is than soften them....norm steel is cheap enough.....

I got something similar I use to centre the mill...

perhaps u need to buy a mill, a good excuse eh........lol.......

I pretty often oil up the lathe bed and most of those stupid recessed ball bearing oilers are now changed for drippers....mostly home made....

tho the best aid to cleanliness I added to my lathes was tin covers fitted with magnets to the carriage ....

these stop virtually all swarf and coolant directly where I'm machining....

quite like the "Rage magnetic swarf wand"

have a dedicated paint brush for cleaning and another for applying oil....

oil is always Synthetic engine oil 5w-40....
