Thread: Cutting fluid |
16/02/2020 07:04:30 |
my plan is to use Hydraulic oil as a cutting fluid when my machines are unpacked from the big move.............. previously only ever used Q8 dilutable cutting fluid......think it was about £100 for 25 ltrs......when left standing u get a frog spawn type growth in the tank....had enough of that........ My as new Super7 and VMF mill only gets Hydraulic oil.......dont want water anywhere near em..... |

09/02/2020 18:56:56 |

Thread: Australian Bush Fires |
13/01/2020 17:16:03 |
Thanks for writing Dave Hinves....... Nothing to do with Ozz but quite similar problem....... I lived in the deeply wooded Charante area of SW France, even around the devolped areas there are mass's of forests and wild woodland.......ALL UN-MANAGED and badley overgrown....... fallen tree's in abundance.....on my walks, some were down before I got there and I lived there for 16 years.....just the dead stuff accumulated in front of ur eyes........... I always worried if there were to be a bad forest fire.......the firebrigade was always around but badley under equiped..... I say this as they used to inspect my 0.8 acre lake each visit.......I know and understand what would happen to it should a fire start....but beleive me it would be uncontrolable....... I made this point many times to tose in charge and was told that the woods and forests were privatley owned and nothing could be done.... there'd be a lot of tears if the worst happens tho...... The cascade effect of this disaster down under should be weatherable as you are a large prosperous country but I worry for the future in the Northern Hemisphere as if the Nah sayer's can be beleived in the next 50 years these extremes of temp will start to hit us...look at the fires on the moor's not so long ago..... Can the TIN-POT countries of the north cope......not on ur Nellie...... Well I for 1 will be long gone but those that are left behind I worry for..... My sincere wishes to u all down there and hope for a speedy recovery......... Please make sure the lesson's are learned....make sure the rest of the world knows of ur sucesses and failures.... take care in this awful start to the New Year........ |
Thread: First Myford question. hopefully not too stupid |
09/01/2020 17:14:49 |
that, or it's a badly import from India........ heard some bad stories of "New Myford Parts"...... |
Thread: Electric motor ratings |
09/01/2020 17:11:55 |
nothing to do with the above question...... BUT where ever possible I always increase the size of the motor's HP or whatever by at least 50%... (not nec for my 3phase machines as have 440v direct from the mains)....... Makes em last longer for little extra outlay....... Thats unless it a Proper UK made motor.....do they excist any more......???? always buy the old fashioned Brit motors "Brookes" etc just for stock, if they are cheap....... |
Thread: Myford super 7 oiling |
05/01/2020 15:57:32 |
I binned mine, thats those ridiculas original oil inserts..... dug em out and where room permits made oil droppers and those that are close fit to something else get a sqirt of SYNTHETIC oil and then the hole is closed by those high strength magnets they sell these days...... never a problom any more........ done the same on my Colchester student esp the screw shaft end bushings....they got 90 degree oil droppers made.. now u can see the oil leaking by....... |
Thread: TiN coated twist drills |
03/01/2020 17:04:19 |
always having this problem........ have now learnt to take everything to bits and lube the threads....when fitting new... this includes ride on mowers etc........ save's loads'a time over the years ...... all small screws are changed for ST/Steel and around the exhuasts, brass fixings ...even if I have to make em.....

Thread: Airline Fittings? |
01/01/2020 17:23:06 |
out of interest........ originally I used a Swedish make of a/line fittings.......but they died after 20 odd years of proffessional use..... Now retrired but still v/busy bought some from liddil.......now 5 years old, still air tight and work fine......... my compressor has a working press of 150psi....... |
Thread: Breaking bandsaw blades |
02/12/2019 18:31:54 |
I have a 12inch SIP band saw (14 years old) and until I found TUFFSAWS I used the original manuf.... same result as u but I did get a mile or two of cutting heavy mild steel....mostly 50 mm dia n 10mm plate.... i now use Teff saw Cobalt loaded blades never a prob ever...tensioned all the time....and similar money, even by Machine mart prices... blurb say's can be used without coolant but I still use it....don’t like the mess but when I run out of the milk goop gonna go straight to hydraulic oil only....plus all my lathes n mills will get the same treatment.... as for ur prob blades I'd be sending em back for repair or replacement..... it wont be tracking that’s causing this problem...they are flexible.....more likely to be from a bad batch.... try another supplier or TuffSaw.... wouldn't bother tryin to fix em...just not worth the trouble ..... never buy cheap brands off ebay. They work to hard ..... good luck... just to add a very happy customer of TSaw..... |
