Thread: Hydraulic Platform Trolley |
08/02/2017 19:23:37 |
Hi Alan, look on fleebay........so far I've found that the likes of Sealey operate a badge engineering formuler...... they buy the stuff in from the same people we can more or less but often double the price cos it's got their sticker on it.... No better built and from the same far eastern factory....... I know this as a fact because the very large motorcycle lift I bought was exactley the same at a tad over 1/2 the price and with courier delivery thrown in........ I do have a couple of supplers (for this kinda stuff) I use if you want the address's PM........ As for the job you want to do please buy something a little bigger than u need, not for strength but for stability...it all get's top heavy real quick when things start to go wrong.... good luck Clogs......... |
Thread: Tool clamping plate |
06/02/2017 08:04:17 |
Hi Peter Spink, I think u'll find flash ground is the finish after plate has been flame cut at a specialist profileing w/shop.... when I get plate cut to pattern I allways ask them to knock the lumps off on the grinder.....basicaly a 1m'ish grinding wheel horizontally mounted in a machine with a coolant spray, "not quite" but just lower the steel onto the wheel for a light touch.......reasonably accurate, the molton metal blobs are removed as well as the mill scale (blue color on new plate) don't expect the 2 surfaces to be parallel but good enough for the drill press job tho....... Never seen lazer cut steel finish yet, is there anyone out there that has...?.......interesting to know...... Ta Clogs....... |

Thread: Screwfix MIG welder offer |
01/02/2017 19:23:19 |
Hi Jimmies, for the same sort of money u can get a 180 mig........pay the extra unless ur just doin car body work....... I tend to run at the 140-165 for my work and just the odd time run it flat out......it's a 180 amp unit.....as for gas I use carbon dioxide........ I only do mild steel and mostley use 0.8mm wire......for fine work u can use 0.6mm one of the problems with the small amp migs is "run time", the bigger unit will run for much longer on the lower amp's but the smaller amp unit will be nearer to it's max......there will be the run time at say 130amp in the blurb but it won't be long...the info will take some finding as they don't want u to know......it all depends on the machine, fan size etc etc but may only be for less than 5-8mins of run time......they mark it as a percentage......best ask if u can..... u'll find the small machine will time out when u most need it......Murphy's law of sod........ remember a big machine will do a small job .......also, my Mig stands in a draughty barn, I have fitted a household bulb holder under the mig wire spool (15kgs) with a 60watt bulb in it to keep the machine free off damp and it also stops the welding wire getting rusty.......this is left on permently from Sept - May, not cheap but got sick of buying new wire cos of rust.......I say this as there won't be room for a bulb holder in the small machine and to save the wire from rust u'd need to remove from the machine...thats unless u got central heating in the w/shop.... for heavy welds and or a lot of it, I run a 225amp oil filled arc welder and for the very big jobs I have 480 amp welder as well........be lost without em.........mind u I'd love a decent TIG but £1500 squids it just to much me...... PS....don't bother with a gasless machine, to expensive to run....get ur gas from somebody like Hobbygas, stockists all over the UK....cheapish, easy to get a refill, (quite a lot of hire shops do the bottles)........... good luck Clogs |

Thread: Measuring V belts |
30/01/2017 11:17:46 |
Hi all, working out the correct belt size is a forgotten Black art........nothing worked for me properly....... Found it easier in the old days to take the machines and yes 3 ton Tractors as well to the parts place to get the correct belt.... Now the nice people let me take a dozen belts and take back the 1's that don't fit........I'm doing this about twice a month..........my parts place is 15 miles away........it's less stressful this way, well for me........ not the answer u want but hey, ho.........clogs

Thread: What Did You Do Today (2017) |
29/01/2017 10:46:47 |
Hi All, regarding Muzzers floor..........nice job overall.......... for my next (new) w/floor a tad over 100sq, m.......I first thought of 2pack paint...but then found out the cost...... it was recomended a thined sealer coat first and after that 2 coats of paint at the proper viscosity ...... Had word with a builder friend and he suggested pour the basic floor then a 50mm skim (at the same time still wet) of concrete mixed with fine granite chippings..........at the proper time, float the floor with a "helicopter" type power float, proffesionally.......once dry, recomended 1 month, use a simple sealer thats re-coatable anytime........ I want the place to look smart but still need to mop the floors......also my 2ton Epco engine crane has cast iron wheels..... any views on this, only gonna do it once and thinking chipped paint is just not on........well not at that price...... thanks Clogs......... |
