Thread: Milton Keynes Metals?

I had the misfortune to use him once when i first started model engineering 20 years ago before we could afford the internet i sent for his catalogue worked out what small ba taps and some brass i wanted and drove to his shack he shared with a car repair business he sorted out what i wanted and the cost was just over double his catalogue price with the excuse i cannot keep the catalogue up to date i had to wait 3 weeks for the catalogue because it was at the printers. I think he just made his price up as he went along i have not been near his shack since. Andrew you have done very well in giving him a miss he obviously changed in 20 years

Could somebody give me some help i cannot get the ELS software to go on the Code Composer studio work space every time i click on the download folder it just keeps breaking it up into smaller and smaller folders. When you watch James you tube number 10 on flashing the board he just drags it into the workspace and CCS just extracts it.I am useing win 10 home 64bit it will not put the folder anywhere just smaller and smaller folders then puts a few lines in from the extraction. Thanks Graham

Thread: Any idear of the make of this model
31/10/2020 15:46:29

img_1763.jpgimg_1762.jpgimg_1761.jpgI was given this model in it's very sorry state some years ago and struggling to identify it and was being given some assistance by Alan Stepney who unfortunately passed away very suddenly and it got put away and forgotten about clearing out a cupboard this morning i came across it and thout i would try again.

It is all brass or bronze the fly wheel is 9 1/2 inches diameter i think the bore and stroke is 1 1/2 by 3 inches the eccentric straps look like they are press out as the corners are very sharp .The main shaft i replaced so i could turn the engine over the one it came with had sheared off at the flywheel the 3 eccentrics are have a key way in them i have taken the studs from the steam chest they are .122 48 tpi and if i remember the eccentric straps are 3.5 x 1 mm pitch bit off a mongrel any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Graham

Thread: Problems with digital read out
25/04/2020 13:42:26

img_1617.jpgI have been having a problem with the Y axis jumping about 5mm it was being wound from zero to .625 and as i moved the handle it suddenly jumped to .806 wind back to zero and it would go to the correct zero.If i then wound it very slowly it was ok for two or three days then it got worse and started jumping all over the scale. After finding the original paper work for it 2010 i bit the painful bullet and got a new one which touch wood is working ok at the moment with just the new screen and y travel and the old x and z left on the milling machine.

Out of interest i took the back of the old screen and noticed like a mould or growth along some of the tracks and wondered if this could be the problem.
