Thanks guys, I shall get some on order! Andrew. |

I have, at long last, run out of my hoard of Picador pulleys. So I need to make some. What is the recommended grade of aluminium? Andrew.

Thread: ML 10 Riser blocks |

If you want the height of the 2 riser blocks to lift up the lathe, then I cannot help. Andrew. |

RDG were selling them off cheaply, a little while ago, might be worth checking to see if they have any left. I have one and will need to dig it out for dimensions. Might be a day or so before I can locate it. Andrew. |
Thread: Invertor or Motor Problem? |
31/03/2023 14:02:46 |
I had a dead Altivar VFD , The fault was in the power output block. Surprisingly, I googled the output block number and found several sellers in China. Cost around £8 and the Altivar was fixed. Andrew.
Double post.

Thread: Problem with penetrating oil can |

Acetone and my regular ATF fluid are immiscible and separate out in seconds. So what brand of ATF fluid mixes with acetone? If you want 5 litres of WD40 clone, then Smith and Allan is the place to google. Excellent products and good value. Andrew.

Thread: 6 jaw chuck - why? |

Thanks Old Mart, Now I know what the very slim set of jaws are for. It had puzzled me for years! Andrew. |

I use one for the opposite reasons given above, they are ideal for turning large diameter rings that are of thin section. Much better than a 4 jaw at holding shape. I was given an old stock, unused Pratt Burnered 6 jaw with five sets of jaws all different. It must have cost a fortune. I would not buy one for the amount of work that it has done. But is very useful when needed. Andrew. Edited By Andrew Tinsley on 23/03/2023 12:04:05 |
Thread: Workshop Photography Articles |
16/03/2023 11:15:55 |
I must agree with James. Far too much space taken up with photography. If I want to know how to produce good photos, Then there are far better places to look than MEW. While on the subject, even workshop articles are padded out with over size photos. True a photo is worth a thousand words, but do they have to be so big? I have not totted up the numbers, but I would guess half the magazine is taken up by photos Is there a shortage of relevant workshop articles I wonder? Andrew. |
Thread: Homeworkshop lost a month of Ads? |

Thank you both, it seems the problem lies with my computer. What I wonder could be the problem? All good fun finding out! Andrew. |

Thread: Why is the world of model engineering still imperial? |
06/03/2023 20:27:02 |
Having mulled over the original OP's statement. I have come to the conclusion that he is wrong in his belief that the model engineers world is metric. Only a few of the oldies are still working in imperial. Most of us, me included, are perfectly happy to work in either metric or imperial, whilst the younger members are working in metric units. Thread: A New Way |

My apologies if I caused offence with my use of "Bovine excreta" . I assumed that it was in total common usage. The use of the first and last letters plus filling in with asterisks, always seemed a bit pointless, as everyone knows the meaning of such a representation! However if I have offended then my apologies. As to the content of the OP's video. I just smile, Mr Musk is at least 80 years too late to claim this as a new way of production. Just typical of the man, hype is more important than fact. Regards, Andrew. |
