183 forum posts 20 photos | Good morning Richard I think Minx appears within the Maid of Kent drawings, having looked on the Myhobbystore site it gives the following description: - A 5in gauge locomotive and tender. (ME VoIs. 97-101). Maid of Kent is based on the Southern Railways Maunsell 'L1' class 4-4-0 passenger locomotive and Minx is based on the Vulcan-built class 'C' 0-6-0 goods engine. Both can be built with inside or outside cylinders and Stephenson valve gear, or with inside cylinders and Joy valve gear. My first port of call would be to pop an advert in the "wanted" small ads on this site, also ask around at your local model engineering societies, somebody may have a set they no longer require. You could have a go at getting the copies of Model Engineer covering the series off of one of the auction sites etc; download one of the indexes for Model Engineer that are available on the net to identify the exact issues you need. I have often thought that had Minx been marketed seperatily or better identified it may heve been more popular authough as a LBSCR C class it would take a bit of imagination as drawn. Regards, Bob Youldon

![]() 1285 forum posts 353 photos | hi richard, the LBSC joy valve gear version of MINX is one of his best designs. bob correctly states it was described in conjunction with MAID OF KENT. a very good representation of the LBSCR C2X class can be produced using the MINX drawings. it is an excellent passenger hauler and steamer. the boiler drawings will need updating by providing silver soldered bushes for the regulator at smokebox and backhead, and proper bushes silver soldered to the backhead for the fitings. described in ME 1948/9 and Reeves still had the flanging blocks to do boiler kits and many castings are 'standard'. however for some strange reason it hasnt been listed for many years. beware that the stephensons valvegear version of MINX has the same valvegear problems as the stephensons valvegear MAID OF KENT cheers, julian

15 forum posts 1 photos | Hi Richard, i can highly recomend minx, my uncle and I built one in a year. Not only a good passenger hauler, in 3imlec's we finished 3rd twice and 2nd. Go for the joy version. If I did one again the only thing that needs changing is the boiler, the gas to grate ratio is a mile out and she can go dead after sustained running. I would think about a shorter fire box with less protrusion into the cab or larger tubes. But the boiler is still as lively as drawn.

I will place a wanted add in the mags for drawings also any odds and sods of spares you can hope This is my first venture into Live steam modelling so any help or advice is very much appreciated |

![]() 1860 forum posts 121 photos | Hi. I built one without castings - you need the drawings though! For the cylinders I started with two 4"ish cast rounds, made them square then bonded and bolted them together. Ran sweet as a nut when complete! |
