Hi Cyril;

Having seen one of the big ones in person, I think that you could fit the average UK. workshop in the firebox of one of these locomotives.

Also, have seen a 3-1/2" gauge model of one - (actually, have seen a couple) and here's a picture of one at the Montreal track taken last summer:

In the mid 80s I visited the Ford museum in Detroit, two things made an impression on me.

As I walked round a corner a locomotive engine came into view and was totally in awe, looking up at it, it seemed to fill the same space as a row of back to back terraced in houses would!

I spent a good hour just looking at its exterior. I am not sure if it was one of the BIg Boys but it was reputed to weigh 600 Tons and was for hauling coal carrying trains over mountain ranges.

The second thing was a diminutive (compared to its opposition) car driven by Jim Clark when he won the 1965 Indianapolis 500, seeing it brought a lump to my throat.

Here is a 7,1/2 gauge one off the Chaski board he builder has just passed 10,000hrs work on it
