399 forum posts 167 photos | Hello, I need to make a new gathering pawl for a Synchronome slave movement. The pawl is about 12mm x 5mm and 2.8mm thick and appears to be white nylon. The dial is 600mm dia which is probably why its worn, it only dates from 1981. My natural instinct is to make one from brass however probably wiser to stick with something like the original. Not really familiar with plastics, can anyone suggest a suitable material ? Thanks Peter

It has excellent bearing qualities, machines beautifully, and is much more stable than Nylon. ... Rather expensive as a stock material, but an ebay seller often has offcuts. MichaelG.

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Peter, Could you please post a picture of that Slave Movement ... I'm rather surprised by the date you mention. Many thanks MichaelG. . P.S ... This excellent document seems to confirm the use of Nylon Pawls from 1963 onward, and also indicates that yours might be one of the last made ... see p154. 436 forum posts 5 photos | The document brought back memories. We had a Synchronome clock at work. I vaguely remember some one fiddling with it in about 1971, it was never touched until I left in 1980. the one second pulses timed our control room digital clock. Frank |
