Simple Mill Engine

Yes it should Eric looks like I made the same mistake as for the slide bars:---- sorry

Just one ? out of interest, are you making the engine, only it would be nice to know if any one as taken on the challenge.

just to let you know, I have completed the simple mill engine (not yet painted though)

I had a copy of the plans (with mistakes) prior to the article appearing in ME.

As a relative beginner to model engineering I found the overall construction relatively easy, thanks to your build log. I have learned a lot in the process and picked up on most of the mistakes which are pretty obvious really.

i elected to use a cast flywheel rather than fabricate one and ruined two carbide tipped lathe tools getting through the glass hard surface skin ( they were only cheap ones so no great loss ) but once through the skin flywheel machines easily. I had to reduce the height of the 16mm square piece between cylinder and base to get piston valve and sliders to match on centre height. I did make the parts in the reverse order to you though.

I started with the slide bars, crankshaft bearings , crankshaft etc the cylinder and piston being the last items machined. ( proves I am a relative beginner I suppose!!!).

I have had it running on air ( I need a compressor of some sorts though).

It has been a real pleasure to make and look forward to your other engines in the series.
