Help wanted!! Traction engine repair

Hi everyone!!

i am new to all this so please forgive me for any mistakes!!

please also forgive me for my strange request!

my grandad,a very keen modeller, years ago built a small model of a traction engine which was in great working order for many years, until recently. He decided it needed a few adjustments and took it apart.

This was unfortunately just before he had a stroke and lost the use of his left hand, leaving him unable to repair it.

My grandad has now recently died.

This leads me to my reason for posting on here, my mum is desperate to find someone that would be able to put this back together again. We are open to suggestions on how we could do this, either using any materials my grandad has in his workshop or any parts anyone needs to supply just so long as the main original parts are used. It goes without saying any expenses will be covered.

Once again I realise this is a strange request! We are located in the Oxfordshire area and welcome any ideas on how to put this model back together.

You could try posting this on TractionTalk forum, but some more details would be helpful.

As it was complete once it sounds like a) you have all the bits and b) there is no major machining to be done just perhps for some worn parts that prompted your grandad to take it apart.
Look for some plans that might have the name of the design on it and photos that show it completed so we can help identify the design. Also measure some key items like the overall length, and diameter of wheels to enable it's scale to be established. This will help judge the ease of handling it.

There are several books on taction engine building so perhaps someone in your family can just read up and reassemble though I would advise a more expert examination before trying to steam it.

Finally if you do decide to post a query on some other forums please use a more informative title such as "Traction engine - need help to rebuild".

Sorry to read of the death of your grandad, Bev.

Maybe a local Model Engineering Soc. might be a good place to enquire. If your grandad was ever a member of one, that would be a good place to start. Otherwise, there's one in Oxford , and if that's a bit far away, a pretty comprehensive directory here.
