I want to build a "Perseus" engine using Reeves castings.

Can anyone suggest a book that gives basic information on machining castings, flywheels and making split bearings etc.

Information such as gunmetal is soft and need protecting, using a part of the flywheel that will not be machined to set it up to keep things concentric.

Would Building the No.9 engine by Tubal Cain have this type of information?

For about the same cost as the book you could buy a couple opf volumes of ME that had the build in. This would have much the same info as building the No 9 as that is basically just a reprint of his ME article.

Tubal Cain's build of the stuart S50 would also be useful, just change the last number from 1 to 2,3, 4 etc to get the next pages. Freely available on the net.

There is also a similar version of teh same engien called Theseus that is done without castings, Myhobbystore sell teh drawings

Ken,

Best approach would be to read Edgar Westbury's original construction series in M.E. which ran through volumes 115-116 (late 1950's if i remember correctly); you can look it up in one of the on-line indexes for actual issues involved and shouldn't have too much difficulty in obtaining the relevant back issues from the usual sources.
