Riveting a cab roof

Hello All,

If you look at my photos you can see that i am building a class 08 shunter, i decided to attack the cab with more detail though, adding more rivit detail. Can anyone suggest the best way of riviting in this situation? (the roof is rolled)

Should i countersink, then peen?

Or use dummy rivits like a 8ba slotless screw? (expensive i know)

i have around 100 todo on the cab piece alone (roof and sides)

If they are just cosmetic then I would use either Copper or Brass Rivits and soft solder them in. (From the back of course, you can also  countersink the hole and trim the rivit first if you want)

Yes they are cosmetic and structural as well but solder is quite strong i guess and my struts are brass, so that might be an idea!

Rather than hammering away with a snap, use a taper pin reamer to give a slight taper and then the "setting" blow will be sufficient to fill the taper and hold the rivet.Flush off on the inside.

For the cosmetic rivets you can glue them using something like Loctite 601, however, if you are going to solder the the structural ones, then do the soldering first, otherwise the glued ones will fall out.

No don't use loctite the rivets will fall out.Solder them in as mentioned before.

Thanks everyone, I'll work out some way of doing it, i just reckon soldering will be messy? Someone suggested to me use starlock washers (bad idea maybe?)?
