Just out of curiosity, what happens if you make clock wheels out of non- leaded brass ?

The problem comes in the making ...

"Hard Leaded Engraving Brass" produces beautiful little chips from the cutter.

"Brass Ordinaire" smears.

It's like the difference between hard Aluminium Alloys and soft Aluminium sheet.
