A little digging on the 'net throws up an arbor for sale on eBay and an out-of-stock collet holder in the 'States. Both are MT2 taper fittings with M10 drawbar thread. My guess is that any MT2 taper collet set would fit. However, I DON'T have an EMCO mill, so can't actually confirm this. Caveat emptor! Expect to pay upwards of £60, depending on quality/country of origin. (I always find CTC Tools of Hong Kong pretty good value.)
Do you not have a manual to go with it?

I just bought a set of ER25 collets for my Amadeal. They are available in 2MT/10mm thread and 3MT/12mm thread. Work a treat. Pricey at £109 but you get the holder and 15 collets.

Hi Bill, Have a look at this link to ebay for an original Emco ESX25 Collet chuck. I have had an FB2 for 25 years now and use this chuck every day more or less.
They are excellent--don't forget you will need a draw bar DO NOT be tempted to use it without this. It might be worth looking at the Pro Machine tools link on the RHS of this page--same outfit as on Ebay.
For collets I would look at RDG and compare their price with the Emco ones. I bought some collets from them and am very pleased with the performance which it seems varies considerably if you look at this and other forums relating to collet accuracy. RDG say their tools are made to the relavant DIN standard---look at the second link.

Regards John

Hi Bill, I have always used the oil supplied by Pro Machine Tools---the original suppliers of the machine. I change or top up as required in the manual -- not to seriouse about the oil changes, its difficult to keep to the recomended hours of use so I change it when I feel its necessary-- about every 2 years ??

I am sure any good quality machine oil will be OK but Ihave never looked for an alternative and cost compared to the M/C is small.

If you were stuck and need a manual I will copy mine if you message me but I am sure Pro M/Tools will supply one OK.

Have a look at this link, a spindle lock by Graham Meek and take the point regarding the tufnel gear !! Bear this in mind when tightening your chuck, I did'nt know there was a tufnel gear untill I read Grays article, I've never had a problem but will at some point make the spindle lock.

I have a Taiwanese built FB2 clone & use 2MT collets direct in the spindle.

I have used ATF in the gearbox, without any issues.

I had a FB2 for many years. I never had to change the gearbox oil because it leaked out through the quill, so it was just a case of topping it up using 32 grade hydraulic oil (same as Myfords use). As an aside, ProMachine reckon that 80% of FB2 quills leak.

Draw bars are easy to make. Just a length of 10mm bar. Put the desired thread on the working end (M10 or 3/8" BSW). For the other end, get an M10 cap screw turn it down to put a smaller thread on it. Drill and tap the top end of the prospective drawbar the same and screw and Loctite the cap screw in. Done.

Bill,

I also have had an FB2 for many years. It has proved an excellent buy; fine for light and medium milling, not quite rigid enough for really heavy work, but this is not a problem for amateur work as there is nothing you cannot do in stages. It also makes an excellent precision drilling machine. The only problem I have had is that several of the plastic cable glands have broken, but I have not seen the need to replace them yet.

I have the genuine Emco ER25/2MT collet holder and it is excellent quality, though rather expensive and probably hard to find now. I think many of the sets available today will serve well if you go to a reputable supplier; I suggest you look at this set, I've been happy with the quality of tooling from this suplier.

Like Steamdave above my quill leaks oil slowly; it's not a problem, I only need to top up the oil every 2-3 years. His suggestion about making the drawbar is spot on; I had a solid M10 Emco one supplied with the machine, but had to make a 3/8" BSW one for some other tooling in exactly the way he described. It has worked fine for 25 years and shown no sign of coming adrift.

I have never felt the need for a spindle lock. Despite what the above-quoted website says, the Emco recommended method of removing 2MT tooling works fine and places no stress on the gears. You do need the special forcing nut to do it, but if you didn't get one with the machine they are easy to make; ask here for details. It helps if you don't pull the tooling too hard into the taper socket or it gets hard to remove - by whatever method you use.

The biggest improvement I made to mine was to fit a 3-axis DRO system (from Machine-DRO). This has transformed the accuracy of the work I can do.

David

PS - this website must be one of the flakiest I have used. I just typed the above and then it just jumped back to the home page and my words had disappeared; the back button revealed a blank box. Had to type it all out again. This is not the first time it has done this to me (perhaps it's trying to tell me something!)

Hi Bill, if you get a chance to go for the ER32 it will give you a bit more flexibility. I have some and I use a threaded mandrel adapter (from RDG) for my ML7 and it works a treat..
I had originally tried MT but had problems (MT2 collet slipping) that were solved by switching to the screwed adapter.
