I am building a 5" ga 2-8-0

It has Bronze castings for the cylinders, already machined to diameter.
The steam entry and exit is via slots cut into the body of the casting and the steam enters/exits via the passage between these slots and the liner.
The liner is of Cast Iron, and hence needs to be sealed. I used Loctite 620.

I was advised not to machine the liners and then fit them after due to the danger of breaking the liners.

The cylinders are too large to fit the liners and then machine on the lathe, so I turned the outside diameter to a sliding fit and loctited them into the casting. Then I bored them to size wih a boring head.
Unfortunately, the boring head was not correctly centered and I have 0.4 mm error in concentricity.

The minimum thickness of the liners is now 1.2 mm, and their OD is 43.2 mm
I had originally intended to make new liners and fit then fit them, as clearly they can be safely removed.

But If I can hold the recovered liner concentric, I could perhaps bore it out to concentricity.
HOW TO HOLD IT? It's too thin to but in the 4 jaw chuck. Some type of collet suggests itself. Or just give it away and start again?

Lots of setting up needed but I recall seeing a cylinder block secured to a lathe saddle, the boring tool was part of a bar running between the centres.
The cylinder head was traversed down the bed and the tool passed through its bores.

As Ady says leave them in the casting and either use a between ctrs bar or just put them back in the mill and open up with the boring head.

Could you also fit the cylinder to the faceplate using an angle plate or similar to hold it, my Fowler cylinder is a similar bore to yours
