![]() 484 forum posts 97 photos | This question has probably been asked many times but search as I might I can't find answers on this forum. The raw material supplied in the kit for the Stuart S50 engine is supposed to be brass but it has a slight coloured sheen on the outer face which leads me to believe that it may be phosphor bronze. The question is what is preferable for a piston operating inside a cast iron cylinder, brass or phosphor bronze? I'll most probably be running on compressed air until I have built a boiler for it. You might find a little difference in the machining, but I would expect Stuarts to supply a free cutting bronze anyway, so just go ahead and use it, the sky won't fall on your head. John |
