371 forum posts | Spend 26 minutes or so viewing parts 1 and 2 here . Pouring a molten alloy into a saucepan of water might surprise some. There are more videos which I shall watch at a later date. |

2805 forum posts 219 photos | Niloch - thank you for pointing me to a memorable experience. I imagine most members of this forum would be struck by the absence of machine work; Ironbrush says he rejects machines as being too quick. I did, however, notice what looked like a motorised fret saw in one shot and, of course, he is understandably using optical and computer technology, which was possibly not available to the original artist. These wonderful videos say a good deal about Japan.
The saucepan technique reminded me of how lead shot are made.
Two questions (which may be answered by his other videos): was periodic annealing required and how does he sharpen those chisels?

![]() 140 forum posts 51 photos | Hi Niloch - Thanks very much for letting us all know about this fascinating film - Makes my polishing things with a bit of 1500 emery paper look a bit suspect! I am sure lots of others would like to appreciate his work as well - the detail and skill is brilliant. If I had ever got that far 4 or 5 months into the job I would have been shaking at the very thought of the iron brush slipping and ruining all that work. Fantastic stuff. Bob |
