9 forum posts | Hi James,
Information in English on poppet valves is pretty thin on the ground. There is a brief explanation with a quite useful drawing in "Steam Locomotive Design: Data & Formulae", available from Camden.
If my memory serves me correctly, LBSC, who was somewhat of an authority on valve gears, gave a description and drawing of both oscillating cam and rotating cam types in The Model Engineer during 1950. If you are stuck, I could probably dig it out for you.

9 forum posts | Hi James,
I have found the relevant pages in The Model Engineer, Vol 102, No. 2561, June 22nd, 1950.
I have scanned them into my computer, but am sorry to have to admit that I am better with old magazines than I am with computers! I literally don't know how to post the images onto this website (or any other website for that matter).
If you can be patient for a day or two, I will contact my local computer expert who will show me what to do.
Sorry about that.
Regards,
Sean Cave.
