Fitting a chuck to a backplate

I bought a chipmaster a couple of years ago, but for various reasons I have''.t done much with it yet. I was buying at the bottom end of the market so, like me, it''s seen better days. It''s working and usable, just, but it needs some attention. The coolant pump is missing although all the pipework is there, I''d like to replace it if anyone as one spare. The main problem is that the clutch slips on anything other than a light load, although gentle pressure on the clutch lever solves the problem it''s not an ideal solution, What am I up against here? The heads on the adjusting screws of the four jaw chuck are damaged, I assume that replacements aren''t available so how do I get them out  and how can I repair them? The chuck is 6" Pratt CP974.  The machine has been hand painted cream, some of the paint is flaking off, some is firmly adhered, how can I remove it without damageing the original paintwork? I don''t have a problem with a machine showing honest signs its working life. Finally, it''s single phase, has anyone experience of converting to three phase with invertor control as I assume the variator won''t last forever.  Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks.

Normally if you take the backplate off you will see the dished "washers" that holds the forks that holds the screws in position. Remove the washer, and from the chick face, carefully drive the forks out of the rear of the chuck. The screws then will slide out, although wear and jambed swarf has a habit of making this a harder operation.

I have just signed off on MEW 162.
There is an article on restoring a Chipmaster and replacing the variable clutch with an inverter.
