Despite being a novice I have decided to take on the Shand Mason Fire Engine project. (Keep your eye on this forum Gunter, there could be a lot of questions coming your way)! First one is ;- You say there are castings available but I can't find where they are available from. I suspect the turntable is beyond my lathe so may have to buy the casting.
If there is anyone else out there building the Shand I'd be pleased to hear from you.
Chris.

I think its the one that Reeves sell castings for, You will still need to finish turn the castings so they will be no smaller than a fabrication.

Hi.
I'm considering building the Shand Mason Fire Engine. Reading the ME articles ,which started in May 2009 , on page 570 under the construction heading it states that the general arrangement is shown in fig 1, 2 & 3 but these do not appear to be included in the article ( fig 4 appears in the june issue) Were they included in a later issue?

Hi Jason.
Thanks for that. As you suggested when I copied the article I stopped at page 570, never noticed 571 because of the free plans in between.

Hi Ian,
don't know if you are interested but I have a complete set of castings for the 2" scale Shand Mason bought from Reeves some years ago. I have the chassis and wooden wheels complete to a very high standard, a complete copper silver soldered boiler, a full set of drawings and also the original set of Model Engineer magazines featuring the building of this model by Edgar T Westbury. So, the hard bits are all done, all that is left is the machining of the castings, steam fittings etc. I have not costed this out yet but I know the castings alone are now £340 and have no idea what a complet boiler would be. Anyway, if you are interested let me know and we can talk figures.

Hi John.
Thanks for your kind offer but I have already built the wheels & nearly completed the chassis I already have the plans & ME articles. If I had not got this far I would have been interested.

no probs. Ian, I would be interested to watch your progress. I started this project some 10 years ago as an ex firefighter it seemed the thing to do. Time and other projects prevent further progress so I will be advertising it soon. .....John
