Super 7 Pump wiring

Hi all,

I purchased a second hand Super 7 which I am very pleased with but have a question that someone may be able to assist with.

The lathe came with a Myford stand and coolant pump, the pump has a plug on the end of the cable to plug it into a wall socket however I notice that there is an on/off switch for the pump on the control panel.

Having removed the front panel there is a hole between the pump compartment and the electrics compartment above that I am presuming was there for the pump cable to come up from below.

The rear of the pump switch on the panel has 4 terminals, each one is separated from the others with what looks like a circular ceramic spacer about 5mm or so thick. One has a live feed into the switch and one has a neutral feed in to the switch, the other two terminals are un-used.

I believe that one will be for the live out to the pump and the other for the neutral with the earth going to the earth block. Neither terminal is marked up to indicate which is which but are marked with A and B, the terminals already wired up are marked 1 and 2, can anyone clarify which is which please?

Withy the lathe disconnected rom the mains, use a meter to check to which other LIVE switch terminal connects when the switch is ON.

Having done this, yopu should find that the NEUTRAL is switched to the other reminal

If you take the cable feeding the pump, and connect the lLIVE to the terminal which you have just found is switched to LIVE, and connect the NEUTRAL feed to the pump to the terminal switched to NEUTRAL, you should be able to control the pump from the switch, on the control panel, that you have just checked.

If the cables pass through any panels, to protect them, make sure that they are carried through in a gtommet.

The wiring diagram for my single phase Myford 254 shows both wires to the Coolant Pump switch are taken from the motor run windings. This is how I connected mine when I added it. The S7 manual which I downloaded did not show any pump.

Hi all, I have the S7 Handbook but it does not include the Myford Stand, it appears that there are a number of ways to wire the pump in, I am going to follow Howard's cunning plan as a starter for 10. Thank you all
