Ladies & Gentlemen,

I don't know how one can contact the author of an article in MEW but I am having difficulty relating the text of Mr. Tierney's "Centring Rotary Table on a Mill" article (Issue 323) with the numbered photographs.

it may be that I either senile or stupid but I wonder if there is any possibility that the photographs are numbered or captioned incorrectly.

Can anybody help, please?

Happy New Year

MC Black (Dr.)

At one and a half pages, and four pictures … one would not have expected it to be difficult

BUT … methinks you are simply observant, NOT senile or stupid.

.

I would recommend ignoring the captions and the references thereto

… Skim through the text, and study the photos separately.

Easier to contact Neil and give him a slap on the wrist.

Text photo 1 should be that shown in image 4

Text photo 2 should be that shown in image 1

Text photo 3 should be that shown in image 2

Text photo 4 should be that shown in image 3

I just happen to have the digital copy of the mag open in front of me and it looks like Photo 4 was originally Photo 1 but got changed around so the better photo became the main pic for the article, and copy never got changed to match. Deduct 1 from each pic number and it matches the text, except 4 is 1. Clear as mud? Good.

These things happen in the rush to meet deadline. Once upon a time the whole thing would have been proofread by the ME Editorial Committee, which included Prof Chaddock, GH Thomas, ET Westbury and a string of such luminaries at various times. But those days are long gone in the name of cost saving as the print industry struggles to survive in the digital age that thrives on unedited forum posts and YouTube videos.

I understand the difficulties and have now wish to criticise or slap anybody on the wrist.

Very many thanks to you all for pointing me in the right direction.

I will now sit down and try to work out which captions belong to each image.

With best wishes and thanks again.

Very occasionally, despite relating captions to photos, somewhere in the submission to print process cations and / or photo numbers have been exchanged in my articles.

As the late John Stevenson would say, The man who never made a mistake, never made anything. But even so, i don't produce much!.
