img_20221030_172116_2-1.jpgMost Pultra 1750/70 lathe headstocks seem to have ball-race thrust bearings.Occasionally I come across a thrust bearing that is a solid hard steel thrust collar splined to the spindle shaft. Does anyone have more info such as- is it just an early version? I have seen a suggestion that it may be for the high speed headstock.img_20221030_171835_3.jpg

My understanding is the early Pultra had solid thrusts and later ones had ball thrusts.

Thanks Dell. Just to clarify, you are referring to the early 17-series? I know the "P" type all had solid thrusts.

Yes 17/50 17/70 not sure about the 15 series though also don’t know when the change happened, my Pultra is post WW2 and it has ball bearing thrust.
