Excel 16 mm budget bench drill

![]() 271 forum posts 5 photos | Has anyone purchased an Excel 16 mm budget bench drill? i don’t want to spend a lot of money but t.his has a good specification than some of the other budget drills, not least, 9 speeds and a 2 morse taper spindle. Any comments or alternatives welcome. |

![]() 6956 forum posts 229 photos | Isn't it the same as multiple other ones, just with different paint? Mine is a Nutool and about 30 years old. The bearings are fine but the quill has free play and there has been at least one solution in ME. And the return spring on the handle rather than the quill itself is less than ideal. It is a bit of a pain changing the speed if there isn't enough movement in the motor plate to make the belt loose so I really should do something about that in the next 30 years. |

![]() 6137 forum posts 893 photos | They're all much of a muchness these things with slightly different specs Mine was a Lidl 13mm one, they usually have quite a short duty cycle, build quality is usually ok, chuck/spindle runout may be a bit wobbly with a bit of fettling required at times You get quite a lot for the money once you tot up all the bits to make it, they must be cranking out millions of 'em Will never have a high quality feel about it but In experienced hands it will do decent work Edited By Ady1 on 20/04/2022 23:01:00 |

![]() 6956 forum posts 229 photos | Ah, I didn't realise you were looking at a new one, thought the company had faded away not having seen them for decades at an exhibition. I'd look to get a used one that has less plastic and fewer corners cut. We tend to get one or two come up in the club from member's estates or just packing up the workshop. EDMES were just given one (??make) a couple of months ago. |
