Hi Guys

More problems with my Kity Woodwork Machine, the slot mortise part of it has given up the ghost.

I’ve included some photos of what’s broken, you will see the table is made from aluminium, likewise are the 8 housings which the 4 steel bars (20mm Diameter) slide in.

The problem is, 4 of the housings has cracked, again see the photos.

What would be the best way to do a repair, get the cracks welded (I think they are die-cast) or find someone on here or elsewhere to make 4 new ones out of steel.

They don’t need to be exactly the same shape as the original housings for simplicity sake I was thinking maybe they could be made out of steel, size-wise 47mm x 30mm x 33mm.

I would simply try and buy some new ones, but given the age of the machine and the fact Kity no longer exist I think there will be little hope of me being able to do that.

Anyone have any ideas on which would be the best fix?

The broken parts appear to be secured to the table either by studs or bolts and look to be relatively easy to replicate. Material choice perhaps not critical either. A trip to your local bearing supplier may also prove fruitful.

I would imagine that four of those could easily be made out of a bit of ally bar, six inches of two by two ally should do the job nicely.

As Baz says simple to make, PM sent in case you don't have machining facilities.

Make them out of rectangular blocks of Al Alloy, don't bother about the radiuses tops (unless clearance needed). Keep it simple.

Hi Guys

Thank you all for your replies.

Emgee

No, I don’t have facilities to make the aluminium housings so would like to take you up on your kind offer.

I will PM you.

Cheers

Hi All,

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but on the subject of KITY machines, does anyone know if there any suppliers of KITY spares out there? A 1637 Planer Thicknesser in particular.

Hi Bo'sun

I don't know of anyone who sells spares for the Kity as they went out of business some years back, hence me coming on the forum to find out if someone can make what I need.

If you do manage to find somewhere please share it on here.

Clive
