Hi, this is the first forum post I have made, having spent several months sleuthing around the forums looking for solutions or recommendations for a lot of the same problems I have encountered as a beginner in the hobby.

I’ve always enjoyed making things, and an interest in machining was established at work (we have a small workshop) where I managed to persuade our lead engineer to show me how to use the lathe, mill, and also some CAD tutorials. A few months ago I purchased a Myford ML7 that was going at the local model engineering club after spending an eternity trying to find something suitable. I plan to use it to make model steam engines amongst other things.

Josh

Hi Josh,

Welcome to the forum. I have made a few model steam engines, I don't know if you have already found these websites, but here are some I found useful:

There is a model engineering club at a nice community centre sort of at the bottom left hand edge of the town. Is that were you got your lathe? They have a track too that was extended about 20 years ago using the track from St Albans when we were pushed off our old site.

To add to Thor's links above search this site for 'Dads engines' .

Welcome, Joshua, you definitely have joined a good forum, not only are there steam engine experts, but Myford ones too.

Yeah, I sent the club an email on a whim on the off chance one of their members had a lathe for sale. Got lucky! At some point I may well join the club, time permitting.

Welcome Joshua, probably no better place than here for Myford and steam engines, you have questions, then someone on here will have an answer for you. Noel.
