Probbly the best period in the MEs history

Post war austerity over, Thousands of surplus machine tools, Thousands of people familiar with machine tools from the war, cost of metal dirt cheap, a national culture of engineering

If memory serves the ME was so packed with submissions the narrative was 3 columns a page in that tiny A5 format

Hi Ady1, the A5 volumes ran from Jan 1942 Vol 86 to Dec 1952 Vol 107 and had just two columns and many of the volumes in the middle had fewer pages, Vol 108 started in Jan 1853 and was just slightly smaller than those before the A5 size and it was these up to Vol 120 Dec 1959 that I know, have three columns. I don't have any 1960's volumes, so don't know if they carried on with three columns, but in the 1970's they were two columns again.

Regards Nick.
