Here’s a angle grinder nut disassembled for your perusal

i have quite a few of these as i never seem to be able to find a peg spanner…these nuts work great …tighten as tight as you wish by hand use the tool for ages then when you want to change the disc the nut comes loose easily by hand

Ian,

Not much to them, then!🙂 I like mine, too. Thanks for showing the complexity of the things.

I lose the narrow spanners for holding the shaft, as well as the peg spanners. I like the newer ones with spindle locks…

On a DeWalt grinder I purchased the holes in the nut were hexagonal. If I lost the spanner I could use an Allen wrench.

That looks like a Bosch SDS special nut that doesn't need a spanner. Common nuts on angle grinders have two holes for a peg spanner.

My Bosch angle grinders have been retro-fitted with FIXTEC brand tool-free nuts which may be similar to the OP's; they do, however, have a flip-up half-moon feature which I don't see in the photo.

Long term users of the Tormek wet grinder will know that their original nuts had to be hammered tight but later models feature an ingenious two-start left hand threaded nut which is easily removed by hand.
