Myford threaded chucks on a Rotary Table?

I have just purchased a Soba 6" HV6 rotary table As my needs do not justify a Vertex version. I wish to use my existing Myford 3 and 4 jaw chucks with this table. I can buy a MT2 adaptor to take the Myford chucks but think there will be a problem with them becoming unscrewed when milling, may be OK for drilling.

Is there any way to overcome this issue?

Hi

My Myford chuck is mounted in a similar way on a screwed
fitting on the rotary table ,to prevent it unscrewing during milling
operations you only need a long enough tee nut a piece of
studding and a hose clip or three fixed together as in the photo.
The tee nut will slide in and out to suit the diameter of the chuck,
the assembly is biased towards the undo direction as the
hose clip is tightened.You can mill in any direction you wish to.Workshop55.jpg

I have seen adaptors which bolt down to the RT and have the Myford thread on them, three bolt and four bolt on ebay. Climb milling with small cuts is not likely to unscrew the chuck.

This occurs when milling on the outside, and the Chuck will loosed. For pockets the Chuck is tightened

solutions

1 obtain opposite helix mills. Difficult to find and expensive Reverse motor

2 use straight sided silver steel endmills like d bits. Reverse run

3 drill through backplate register and fit a decent sized grub screw Dimple into the Mount. Or, fit a pin

4 make up a fitting which is bolted to the table going under the backplate and pressing hard against the Chuck fixing bolt , or fit a hockey stick shaped one into a cavity in the back of the Chuck if there is one fir chucks without backplate

this is a problem on my big dividing head when set vertical. Solutions above not possible, so constant pressure needed on the Chuck key to resist any tendency to resist any movement

this is why the horizontal spindle on either dividing head or rotary table is best in this situation.

Re my need to use Myford chucks on my new Soba HV 6 rotary table. I forgot to mention that the mill will not run in reverse and the chucks are direct mounted without back plates. I can buy a MT2 to Myford thread arbor as the center of table is provided with a MT2 socket but wonder if this is rugged enough to hold a 4 or 6 inch chuck?

If the chuck is smaller than the table, I'd make up a fitting to go the the table centre with a spigot to locate the chuck, but no thread, then have long tee bolts to hold the chuck down

If nothing else this will be stiffer.

John P's Tee nut and hose clip idea sounds to be a good idea

Possible variation on this theme, if the table is larger than the chuck, secure an angle bracket to the table with a tee nut, and make a tapping into the chuck body which can be used to clamp it via a short slot in the angle bracket?.

Haven't tried this, but another job to go on the Round Tuit!
