Hi All.

I always seem to be complaining but here I go again.

I ordered some equipment from a company and as it was to be a one-off purchase I decided to pay by Paypal. I paid but the company got back immediately and said the model was out of stock and would be 6 weeks until the stock came in but they said that a competitor should have one left and suggested that was the way to go. They immediately refunded my Paypal payment and I bought from the suggested source again using Paypal.

A couple of days later I checked my Paypal account and the money was not in my account so I checked the first company and the money had left their account and had gone to Paypal. On checking with Paypal they said the money would be in my account in 10 days time. I queried but was told that was standard for a refund. I asked how I got a refund from an Ebay purchase almost immediately he refused to comment other than 10 days was the normal refund time.

The value was only about £1600 but if they hold on to everybodys money for that time then they must have a good money earning stream.

Anyone else have that happen to them.

Alistair

Must be something to do with the large amount.

I've just had a £16.45 refund go through pretty much the same day. Ordered a book from Baham Books which hadn't turned up a week days after the last expected delivery date. I always allow a week when things go wrong before complaining.

E-Mailed Baham midday ish Friday. Picked up a reply after lunch saying it was 10 days since it was posed so item obviously lost so they would refund my money. All the various E-Mails from Banham, E-Bay and Paypal were with me before 5 o'clock. On my regular morning internet banking check next day I discovered thatBarclays reckoned the money was in my account.

So it can work.

Baham books are clearly good people to deal with.

It used to be easy to refund on PayPal because they refunded their fee and I refunded the rest.

Then they changed the rules and stopped refunding their bit. Didn't stop the seller from wanting 100% and not one penny piece less though.

Either this seller is being generous or he has a much better deal from PayPal than I do.

Probably the latter, I am fairly convinced my purpose in life is to fund other folks dodgy get rich quick schemes dont know

I think it is also to do with whether or not the transaction has cleared. When you buy something with Paypal, it takes several days for the transaction to clear, and if it's stopped in this time it's unwound, like it never happened. Once it has cleared, it has to be unwound with reverse transactions - which would also explain Robin's experience!

Hi, I had a Paypal refund on an item from a private seller which was bought through a reputable agent a little while ago, the private seller had to pay the refund through Paypal himself, he paid it in the morning and it was in my Paypal account early that afternoon, OK it was only £3.00 but it was paid without any issues. All the Paypal payments I've made are usually paid to whom they are sent to, the very same day or early the next day, which is normally dependent on what time of the day I've paid it, and I think it's all due to whoever receives the payment, to acknowledge that they have received it to Paypal, at least messages I get from Paypal seems to suggest it.

Regards Nick.

An update on my Paypal saga is.

On contacting the original seller I find that my Paypal payment was never in his Paypal account as he cancelled and refunded almost immediately. I queried this with Paypal who agreed that the money had never gone in to his account but to prevent fraud they would now hold on to my money for 14 days and only then would I be credited by Paypal. I think that the sum involved probably triggered some safety mechanism within Paypal. I asked Paypal about this but they refused to discuss it but they quoted "Customer Confidentiality" I thought I was the customer!
