Hello. I hope all are well and are eager to help? Well, hello anyway...

I have a Progress No 1 pillar drill that I bought recently as a project, it looked to have been left outside for sometime and was in terrible condition. I could give you a re-run of my progress so far but it would be fairly longwinded, and I'm no expert, but it was a mess. Completely rusted, broken parts, tiny shaft on the motor, incorrect pulley wheel, wire mesh for a cover.

I have some questions that I hope some of you might have the answers to.

1: I need a belt cover. Any ideas?

2: I need to know what the motor pulley wheel dimensions are and where to look for one.

3: I need feedwheel handles/3 spoked star wheel handles (Names used in manual)

Thank you for reading.

PJ.

Are you looking for an original cover or just a cover for safety and tidiness? I don't know if my Walker Turner 900 ever had one but it's got one folded up out of sheet now; it's not too hard to do.

I'd rather have an original, and I'm browsing Ebay etc. Mind you I'd consider anything.

I assume you've had a look at Lathes.co.uk

Some information on there and some pictures, too, though if you have a manual, this is all probably superfluous.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Plenty of people on here with lots of experience and expertise for you to tap into, and there's me as well.

John

Thanks for the help, John. Yes, I did read a few posts here before I signed up and went over to Lathes.co.uk. Haven't yet been able to find the info needed, but I'm hoping some Progress owners might be able to fill in the gaps.

Welcome PJ!

One of your first decisions is :

To be functional, or totally prototypical?

If purely functional, a belt cover can be fabricated from sheet steel or Aluminium.

Replacement handwheels are available from various suppliers to the Model Engineering trade. (Arc Euro Trade, RDG etc ) But will probably need modification to fit the shafts on your machine. (Either boring out or bushing - for which you will need a lathe )

Replacement pulleys will also be available, The name Picador springs to mind.

Machine mart only offer twin groove pulleys. You may need three or four groove. And the new pulleys may need the belt section to be changed. Check on Google.
