1050 forum posts 56 photos | Hi Dougie, long time since I built my Allchin, but I'm fairly sure that the Reeves' casting had the basic shapes cast in. No doubt some fettling with a file was needed, and probably the outside diameter was turned. HTHs |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | The book would seem to suggest that the 8 dogs are cast in as he says the casting can't be held in a 3 jaw due to them and later says they can be cleaned up with files. Though with various sources of castings there may be differences in patterns and it would not be hard to machine the dogs on a rotary table if not cast. EDIT this casting on station Road has them cast in. Edited By JasonB on 02/07/2021 19:25:00 |

1050 forum posts 56 photos | Hi Dougie, that could be a drive centre casting without the dogs, but it's not as Reeves used to supply, and AFAIK,they were the only mainstream suppliers of 1.5" Allchin castings. Maybe a smaller supplier though. When the Allchin design was published, milling machines were very rare in ME workshops, and rotary tables even rarer so the trade would supply the more detailed casting. |
