Thanks for all the replies

I have used the fine end of car valve grinding paste and as Jason says it's a bit rough

I will try to get my hands on some finer carbide

Thanks

Thread: Paint Stripping a Locomotive

Try to get some professional paramose paint stripper

It contains methylene chloride so needs to be used carefully but will remove almost anything and is water based

Thread: Single cam working both inlet and exhaust
24/01/2023 16:54:08

Thanks guys

Tim, you have explained it so that it makes sense, the cardboard and drawing pin idea is great

I don't have the luxury or the knowledge how to work a cad package Jason but I liked your cardboard and drawing pin take on it

I will just have to sit at my drawing board and pull out what little hair I have left

Thanks for all the replies

Some interesting reading there

The motorcycle style shown in the post is what I was thinking of

I'm thinking of building a jap or blackburne v twin and I'm just trying to understand the single cam setup

Any ideas on how to work out the angles

Dougie

24/01/2023 07:32:21

Hi

I have been trying to find information on the cam setup where 1cam operates both valves vi a cam follower

I have seen it on old blackburne and jap engines but can't find any info on this

Can anyone tell me what this system is called so I can try to model it

Thanks

Thread: Petrol resistant adhesive /sealant
14/01/2023 17:15:21

Thanks again for the replies

It is a dummy in the sense that it won't be used to clean the fuel, but it will serve to pass the fuel from the tank to the carb so it does have to be sealed

Regards

Dougie

Hi Jeff and thanks for the reply

I intend to make the pivoting hoop to press the glass bowl onto the brass

I have some pretty thick ptfe strip that might work as a gasket

Can anyone suggest an adhesive or sealant that is petrol proof that I can use to seal this dummy fuel filter to my latest engine

Thanks

Thread: Two stroke v 4 stroke piston
24/11/2022 15:58:13

Ok

So the rings are pinned, what does that do?

This is an engine from a home made set of castings so the rods and cylinders were made to suit

I've built lots of engines and never had this dilemma before

Bottom line is will they work or not

But will it make a great deal of difference

24/11/2022 14:37:59

I'm documenting an engine build on tiktok

It's a 4 cylinder holt

I found some pistons on ebay, the correct size with 2 rings and pin I posted them on tiktok and I have had lots of questions asking why I'm using 2 stroke piston

Like you I thought a piston is a piston
