I have a box of unidentified castings that I would like to identify, they all came from a house clearance, the man was a local engineer with lots of model engineering tools etc.

All show the marking VM with a number following, can anyone identify there intended use, or the makers code VM.

Thanks, Tommy

I suspect VM is Vertical Miller? The two on the right seem to be the motor mount parts - the "stump" on the top one goes into the cross tube of the milling machine and the motor bolts to the lower one. Second from right on the bottom row is the fine feed casting. Next left is one of the pulleys. The others I'm not so sure but three at least seem to have chucking spigots cast in to aid holding them for machining. Not sure as to their sizes but probably Dore Westbury??

Yes they are DW castings, I think a Mk2 version.

PM me if you really need to know what's what and I can look it up in the build manual.

Cheers

John
