Superglue and Oil?

I have made 2 oilers from glass globes and brass.

Does anyone know if superglue is affected by oil once it is cured?

Loctite make an oil tolerant 603 retaining compound which should work in your case.

Brian I have made several oilers over the years using the Slo Zap super glue. This does not fog and no I've not had any fail though oil. Sometines the glue does become a bit brittle with age and a slight knock might unseat it but it is soon re- glued.

I must point out though I have not used glass but clear plastic tube - either the clear tube that protects artist type paint brushes or the clear tubular enclosures that some cutting tools have. I have used glass on the aquariums on the Corliss engine.

Many thanks for the answers Brian & Tug, as it happens I have a bottle of Loctite 603, just never thought of using it.

From Tugs answer it would seem that a normal superglue would be OK. The one that I have used is fairly thick and is not an instant one, meaning that repositioning is possible for a short time.

As we have moved on to Loctite, may I mention that 603 is also tolerant of surfaces which are not "consistently clean" and it can be used for gluing oil impregnated bushes into housings.

According to the data sheets, 601, 603 and 638 all appear to have similar resistance to oil after cure.

Just to say Brian Pacer products Slo Zap is a medium thick CA which unlike the fast does not have a tendency to fog

Loctite of course is anerobic so works best when gaps are at a minimum.

I've found acetone to be the best clean up for CA and always use Methylated spirits for Loctite - it kills it dead!

Araldite is also fuel and oil proof once cured. The nromal cure stuff not the rapid one.

I never considered Araldite, even though I have some!

The glass globe is 5/8"inches in diameter.
