22 forum posts 76 photos | My name is Will and I'm based near Dudley. I'm 24 and have reasonable experience in making model steam engines. I owe a lot of this experience to my father who was an 'old school' wood work and metal work teacher. To date I have built; A Simple O level project oscillating engine A pair of Stuart No.10s A Stuart No.8 A Stuart Beam Engine A working model of a cold war air raid siren. And several small scale live steam engines in 009 scale. I'm starting to build a Westbury 'Heinrici' which will be my first endeavour into hot air engines. If someone could advise me how to add pictures I'll happily share a few of my recently completed Stuart No.8

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Welcome! You sound to have experience and skills already. You seem to be where a lot of early engineering took place, and from which our hobby is derived.. Glad to have you join us. The hobby needs younger enthusiasts. Someone more expert than I will advise you non how to set up an album and to post pictures. Howard |

22 forum posts 76 photos | Hi Howard, I've always been an old head on young shoulders, I've cracked the picture uploading I think, so a few of the 8 should appear below. I've had 3 really excellent teachers in model engineering disciplines, and without them I wouldn't be able to use a saw or file, let alone a lathe!

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Once you have used a lathe, if it is ever out of commission, you feel naked and live in fear of a job coming up which requires one. With a lathe you can make / repair / do jobs which a lot of folk think are impossible. Howard |

22 forum posts 76 photos | Agreed Howard,
I have a trusty Super 7 which has never let me down yet. That takes care of most of my larger models. For smaller parts I have a Pultra 1770 which is excellent for precise work. Having been brought up with lathe I think not having one would feel like losing a limb! Will |
