Myford Question

Theoretically (?) would a Super7 headstock & spindle fit on an ML7 base. If so what issues, if any, are likely.

I don't have personal experience, but having checked a pdf of both manuals for ML7 & S7, they both show the same part number for the bed. A8724/1 for the short bed.

It all depends on the ML7!!

The late ML7R is really a lite model super 7 and uses the same bed. The early ML7 that predated the first Super7 and stayed in production alongside was a very different beast and did not share the bed casting.

Whether the Super7 headstock could be physically fitted I don't know but wouldn't expect so. That said, the gap between the shears must be the same since both lathes use the same fixed steady. Can anyone do some measuring?

The later long bed ML7 has a super7 bed, saddle, block gin stripped cross and 360 degree top slides, with an ML7 headstock.

I don't know about which tailstock was used, it was missing from the one that I got.

The parts list where I checked the numbers for the ML7 was dated 1997, but was certainly for a pre-ML7R, with the more upright headstock arrangement
According to the ML7 build spreadsheet I have, the bed casting changed in 1973, but it doesn't explain the modification.
