Im building a Michael Holden 3/4" Engine and am having trouble getting the packing graphite string into the gland?

Could I use ptfe tape compressed just the same?

Thanks

I have used PTFE tape on my 3" traction engine with success and I know others who use it too

Hi Terry,

I too use PTFE tape as packing and it works well.

JasonB suggested PTFE for my 10V, twisted to form a rope. I went a step further and plaited it to give some more bulk, and to keep it all together during fitting and operation:

Works a treat, at least on air.
