Hello fellow members, I wonder if anyone can help me with a small matter?

I have an Amadeal WMD30LV mill that I would like to attach a power feed unit too. Bought near six years ago the potential of an Amadeal version to fit has still not materialised.

I note today that Warco offer such a unit to fit their WM18 mill. The WM18 appears identical in make up to the Amadeal I have. I gave Warco a ring to see if it would fit my mill to which - understandably - because they were not familar with the Amadeal mill they were non committal.

I wondered if anyone who has a Warco WM18 would be prepared to scan/copy/photograph the relevant page showing the exploded view of the table parts so that I could compare them to my manual.

If so that would be much appreciated

Regards - Ramon (Tug)

By way of a "bump", this thread has a few pictures that might be useful for a quick visual comparison;

WM18 Power Feed

..or perhaps some "leads" for correspondence..

If it's any further help, I see the Warco unit suits a number of different models which are all listed under the same part number, so I'm guessing that there's some rationalisation of feedscrew sizes etc. across the range - are the handle (shaft) ends on your '30 17mm? - certainly the Warco Major's (listed as a suitable recipient for the kit) are.

If one can establish that the wormwheel will fit the shaft, that would be one of the more potentially-troublesome variables out of the way..

The feedscrew brackets/bearing housings look rather more variable - Whether fitting for all models is a simple like-for-like replacement of parts seems to be a moot point perhaps..?

Thanks 'Dio'

My shaft diameter is 12 mm x 14mm long witha 4mm key. The threaded part is a further 12mm, not sure as yet what the thread is but probably metric.

The bracket in the images on the link look identical to mine but whether the end of the leadscrew is I have no idea. It does look as if it's an identical machine though - just a different coat of paint!

Thanks for the link - it is helpful to a degree but I'm still not certain, currently doing a drawing of my endbracket to send to Warco. Certainly would like to fit one of these units if they are suitable

Anyone else able to shed any light ?

My thanks

Regards - Tug

In the other current thread on the WM18B, Dave Sawdon made this comment:

‘Also, the mill manual refers to WM18B on the front page but thereafter has WMD30VB’

So it looks like yours will be another version of the same mill. Probably made by Weiss in China.

Stuart - thanks. Thats interesting as the plate on the top of my machine is indeed 'Weiss' so I'll take another look at that thread.

I have just sent a drawing and images etc to Warco - hopefully I'll get a positive response

Hi Ramon,

have a look at this thread

https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=144596

it discusses how to fit the power feed to a WM18 and WM 16

might be useful for you

Regards

Thanks for that link Trevor - just taken a look (plus the WM18B thread).

It certainly looks very similar so the prospect is good - modifying or making anything should not be a problem. Hopefully I'll hear from Warco fairly soon

Thanks everyone - Ramon

Hi again,

Had a response from Warco and it looks like this unit will fit so I've 'bit the bullet' and ordered one this afternoon.

Thanks for all the help - I'll let you know when its fitted and working (said he hopefully)

Regards Ramon

Hi - as promised, just to say the unit has now been fitted this morning and working fine though not yet tried in anger.

The instructions call for replacing the table end bracket with a smaller one supplied. This has matching holes for two of the existing mounting 6mm bolts but require two more drilling and tapping plus two dowel holes if desired. I did not fancy drilling with a pistol drill nor taking the table off so removed the corners of the existing leadscrew bracket to allow the unit's mount to clear. Only loss was the two original dowel holes. I don't think it will require these so have not redrilled for any but will of course do so if it becomes apparent in use that that's required.

Apart from that one mod the unit bolted in place and aligned very easily. Whole thing took about 3 hours.

So, to answer my own question, yes the Warco WM18 power feed unit will fit the Amadeal WMD30 smiley

Thanks for all your responses - Ramon (Tug)
